Dear Mr. Kuecker:

Thank you for contacting me about the Fast and Furious sting operation.  It is good to hear from you
and I apologize for the delay in my response.

As you know, the Fast and Furious sting operation was a gun-trafficking network that attempted to
trace firearms in order to follow the flow of weapons in Mexican drug cartels.  The Fast and Furious
sting was run out of the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives, a federal law
enforcement program within the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).  The ATF's aim was to use the information to prosecute, disarm, and break the cartels.  However, weapons from the Fast and Furious operation were found at multiple violent crime scenes in Mexico, and as a result, the entire program
came under intense scrutiny from Congress, the media, and the American public.

As you may know, Representative Darrell Issa, chair of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, called for a Congressional investigation into the Fast and Furious operation.  Rep. Issa
claims Attorney General Eric Holder deliberately misled Congress about when he was aware that the operation was in action.  Attorney General Holder testified before the House Committee that his office receives over a hundred pages of summaries in a weekly report, and while addressed to him, many are reviewed by members of his staff.  Holder received a subpoena for D.O.J. documents related to the operation, and the process of Congressional review is ongoing.

Like you, I believe that there needs to be increased accountability and transparency within the federal government.  During a time when the American people are increasingly distrusting of the government,
it is more important than ever for Congress to combat ineffective programs and improve responsible governance.  Rest assured I will keep your thoughts in mind as the authorization and management of
the Fast and Furious operation is investigated by Congress.

Again, thank you for sharing your views.  Your opinion matters to me.  If I can be of service to you in
any other way, please do not hesitate to let me know.  As a security precaution, all mail sent to
Congress is first irradiated.  This process causes significant delays.  To ensure the fastest response, I encourage all constituents who have access to the internet to contact me through my website at http://tammybaldwin.house.gov.

                                                                                        Sincerely,

                                                                                        Tammy Baldwin
                                                                                        Member of Congress

Interesting. She actually seems like she's uncomfortable with how things are going, though she seems more interested in financial waste than probable acts of domestic terrorism that likely include the White House and maybe the Secretary of State.

It's good to know about the mail being irradiated. I'm sure that Al Qaeda will take that into account before mailing anything nasty to CONgress...
