Race to Mine the Moon Heats Up

Published October 27, 2011
FoxNews.com

“We are in the first three months of a two-year contract,” David Gump, president of Astrobotic, told FoxNews.com.

"We'll have a field-tested robot that will be able to go to the poles" on the moon to extract water, methane and more, he said.

Astrobotic isn't the only company that hopes to dig up the moon. Last week, FoxNews.com revealed the story of Moon Express, which sees greenbacks in all that lunar "green cheese." In all, 26 companies are in the race, many fueled by the Google Lunar X Prize, a $20 million contract to put men back on the moon.

But a contract with the California company SpaceX to hitch a ride to the moon on its Falcon 9 rockets sets Astrobotic apart, the company argues. On board the rocket, which is planned to launch in late 2014 or early 2015, will be Astrobotic’s own lunar lander, which will take the company’s mining robot to the moon’s surface.

SpaceX spokeswoman Kirstin Brost Grantham confirmed to FoxNews.com that the contract does in fact exist.
Even NASA has a stake in the company, having negotiated seven contracts with Astrobotic, the company claims: one to develop an excavator and others to give NASA information on how the company will carry out its mission at a low cost.

Potential targets include water, methane, and ammonia, hidden in pockets within the moon. Scientists are certain these elements exist beneath the lunar surface, but are unsure about the quantities and in what form they reside.
“The readings ... indicate there’s pretty substantial water at the poles, but we won’t know more until you go and take samples,” Gump told FoxNews.com. “So we’ll both confirm the readings taken from orbit and discover how the resource is spread out.”

While the company’s main focus is to extract these substances from the poles, Astrobotic hopes to find an even rarer element on the moon, one that could have a potentially huge impact on life on Earth the mysterious helium 3.
+++++++++++++
Helium 3 in commercial quantities might make fusion power a reality, at long last. The solar wind carries He3 and the Moon sweeps it up. It's vanishingly rare on Earth, and fuses much more easily than deuterium/tritium or pure hydrogen.

Eliminating the Electoral College Eliminates States Rights and Obama Remains As President

October 22, 2011
By

While we are paying attention to the OWS and to Republican debates where the candidates annihilate each other, the Progressives have a plan to keep themselves in power forever, starting in 2012.

They plan to do this by eliminating the role of states, a protection written into our Constitution, and they are doing it covertly while in plain sight. The Progressive initiative is called the “National Popular Vote Compact” aka NPVC and their information is being spread nationwide via the Internet since 2008.

They claim it is “true democracy” but “democracy” to them is interchangeable with “socialism” and worse, as it was in the sixties. They are moving state by state to bypass the Constitutional amendment process, relegating our SCOTUS to complete insignificance. As per the Communist Manifesto, “popularism” is the means of “democracy.”  It achieves a monopoly of democratic parties for the worldwide Socialist order.

Their goal is to have all the required 270 Electoral Votes needed for a “winner” given to the candidate who wins the largest number of popular votes nationally – no matter how small the win margin and no difference how many states voted to oppose him.

Once enough states have passed it to reach the 270 Electoral Votes, the NPVC goes into effect for the next and all Presidential elections. This bill currently has passed enough state houses to reach 160 EV’s out of the 270 needed. It won’t matter how strongly some states are against it. NPVC has passed 1 of the 2 required chambers in more than 30 other states.

++++++++++++++++++

I know California has done this, or was talking about it.

NPVC website They claim 71% support here in Wisconsin, but this is the first I have heard of it.

I note many of the candidates they have endorsed are Demonrats - and many of the people quoted as support are RINOs.

If the Electoral College is defined in the Constitution, do we not need to pass an AMENDMENT to change it?

Think Muslim terrorism is new?

 It is immortalized in the Marine's Hymn.

Message -- Continuation of the National Emergency with Respect to the Situation in or in Relation to the Democratic Republic of the Congo

TO THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES:
Section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)) provides for the automatic termination of a national emergency unless, prior to the anniversary date of its declaration, the President publishes in the Federal Register and transmits to the Congress a notice stating that the emergency is to continue in effect beyond the anniversary date. In accordance with this provision, I have sent to the Federal Register for publication the enclosed notice stating that the national emergency with respect to the situation in or in relation to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the related measures blocking the property of certain persons contributing to the conflict in that country are to continue in effect beyond October 27, 2011.
The situation in or in relation to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which has been marked by widespread violence and atrocities that continue to threaten regional stability, continues to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the foreign policy of the United States. For this reason, I have determined that it is necessary to continue the national emergency to deal with that threat and the related measures blocking the property of certain persons contributing to the conflict in that country.

PSH from WAVE

As I received it:

+++++++++++++++

Dear Chuck,

Do your friends and family know that starting November 1st, just about anyone can carry a hidden, loaded gun into Wisconsin's businesses and public buildings that fail to post a no-guns-allowed sign?

We’ve put together facts that everyone should know before Gov. Walker’s “guns in public” law goes into effect.

Please forward this email to your friends, family and neighbors. Share the five facts that the gun extremists don’t want you to know about the new law:
1.    It forces guns into places they just don’t belong and puts us all at risk.  Places like banks, restaurants, hospitals, and virtually anywhere that’s not a private residence.

2.    The vast majority of Wisconsin opposes it. By a 3 to 1 margin, the people of Wisconsin say they’ll feel less safe, not safer, in public places that allow guns.

3.    It means guns in bars. What used to end with a few black eyes could now end with guns drawn, shots fired and bystanders killed.

4.    It’s a threat to workers. When businesses allow guns, workers are 5 to 7 times more likely to be murdered, according to a study from the American Journal of Public Health.

5.    It’s an assault on Wisconsin’s social fabric. Breeding fear and mistrust, the law encourages a mantra where every family needs to "arm up" to go out of their home.

Make sure to forward this email to everyone you care about before the law takes effect November 1st -- so they can see what’s at stake and how Wisconsin is fighting back.

More than 60 cities and counties have recently voted to keep guns out of public buildings, the University of Wisconsin has opted to keep guns out of every building on all 26 campuses and concerned citizens have distributed 75,000 SAFE WISCONSIN cards to businesses urging them to keep guns out.

Thanks for everything you do to help reclaim Wisconsin and protect our families against “guns anywhere” extremism.

In Peace,

Shall I debunk these idiots?

1.    It forces guns into places they just don’t belong and puts us all at risk.  Places like banks, restaurants, hospitals, and virtually anywhere that’s not a private residence.

Yeah. There will be police-mandated gun forcing devices at the doors of every one of these places. In fact, I've got the contract to install these.

2.    The vast majority of Wisconsin opposes it. By a 3 to 1 margin, the people of Wisconsin say they’ll feel less safe, not safer, in public places that allow guns.

Anyone care to give a link to a non-Brady Bunch statistic that supports this? Thought not.

3.    It means guns in bars. What used to end with a few black eyes could now end with guns drawn, shots fired and bystanders killed.

The many states that allow CCW in places that serve alcohol beg to differ. Reality sucks, don't it?

4.    It’s a threat to workers. When businesses allow guns, workers are 5 to 7 times more likely to be murdered, according to a study from the American Journal of Public Health.

Again, statistics? From someplace not getting funds from the aforementioned Brady Bunch or George Soros?

5.    It’s an assault on Wisconsin’s social fabric. Breeding fear and mistrust, the law encourages a mantra where every family needs to "arm up" to go out of their home.

Examples from the other 48 states with some form of CCW, please?

(sound of crickets)

I would add a 6th item - it's the law, so shut up and learn to live with it - or if guns scare you so much, go south to Chicago where they are still de-facto banned.

I would really HATE to be an Oakland PD officer!

I bet they are all shaking violently...

Out-of-staters could carry concealed firearms

By Leopoldo Rocha
Residents of more than two dozen states will be able to legally carry handguns into Wisconsin when the state’s concealed carry law goes into action Nov. 1.

On Thursday, Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen released a list of 25 states and two territories whose residents will be allowed to carry weapons into Wisconsin.

The legislation will allow Wisconsin residents to carry a concealed weapon provided they are above the age of 21 years and have the correct permits and requirements.

Out-of-state owners who have a permit issued by their state must “submit to a background search that is comparable to Wisconsin’s background check,” according to the concealed carry FAQ page on the Department of Justice website.

The full list of states that Wisconsin would allow has not yet been released, but the DOJ will continue to update it if they deem another state’s requirements meet Wisconsin standards, DOJ spokesperson Dana Brueck said in an email to The Badger Herald.

She said the full list will be available by the Nov. 1 enactment date.
+++++++++++++++++
I've signed up for a CCW course that supposedly meets Wisconsin standards - my NRA Pistol certificate is not detailed enough. That happens on Nov. 17th.

Then, I have to apply, and wait.

Now - how many states will a Wisconsin CCW be recognized it?

H/t Alphecca

A list of the reciprocal states

  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Connecticut

  • Louisiana
  • Maryland

  • New York
  • North Carolina
  • North Dakota
  • Pennsylvania
  • Tennessee
  • Texas
  • Utah
  • Washington
  • Wyoming
  • Puerto Rico
  • U.S. Virgin Islands
Notice that Vermont, Alaska, and Montana, all Constitutional carry states, are not listed.

I see lawsuits coming - what about full faith and credit? Just wait until some CCW holder from Indiana gets mugged while in Wisconsin, unable to defend themselves...

VIctory in Libya!

For sharia law and Islam. Osama must be very happy!

The photo at Drudge Report:

The article:
++++++++++++++

Libya's liberation: interim ruler unveils more radical than expected plans for Islamic law

Libya's interim leader outlined more radical plans to introduce Islamic law than expected as he declared the official liberation of the country.

Mustafa Abdul-Jalil, the chairman of the National Transitional Council and de fact president, had already declared that Libyan laws in future would have Sharia, the Islamic code, as its "basic source".
But that formulation can be interpreted in many ways - it was also the basis of Egypt's largely secular constitution under President Hosni Mubarak, and remains so after his fall.
Mr Abdul-Jalil went further, specifically lifting immediately, by decree, one law from Col. Gaddafi's era that he said was in conflict with Sharia - that banning polygamy.
In a blow to those who hoped to see Libya's economy integrate further into the western world, he announced that in future bank regulations would ban the charging of interest, in line with Sharia. "Interest creates disease and hatred among people," he said.

++++++++++++++
So, we are rid of Gadaffy - and probably have generated a worse probable enemy in his place.

First Egypt, now Libya. Next - Israel? I know Osama would cream his pants over that, based on his past behavior.

Readers may recall this story a few weeks back:
Be a “concerned scientist” – valid credit card required

Reader DJ writes in Tips & Notes:
Since becoming a member of the Union of Concerned Scientists when I found out all you needed was a valid credit card, my curiosity about who and what they really are has spiked.
I decided to put that theory to the test. I am very proud to announce that a member of my family has been accepted into this prestigious organization. With pride, I present new UCS member, Kenji Watts:

Yes, Kenji is our dog. Apparently, the claim is true, all that is required to be a member of the illustrious group of “concerned scientists” is a valid credit card. No discerning questions were asked of me when I prepared Kenji’s application and no follow up check after the application was done. I simply put in his name, address, and provided a valid credit card that matched the address.
Here is his letter of acceptance:

And the envelope it came in:

Kenji surveys his welcome kit:

Kenji is a Japanese Chin, hence the name. I found it ironic that the issue of the UCS Catalyst Magazine (seen above) was all about Japan.

So the real question is: How many real “concerned scientists” are there in UCS? Membership is apparently not any more discerning than the ability to send money.
I’m disappointed the Guardian hasn’t called for a quote on this story citing “leading U.S. Scientists”:

++++++++++++++++++
Remember the Fusion Energy Foundation? Lyndon LaRouche? They used to roam the airports collecting donations so you could support fusion research - and much of the money went to LaRouche's campaign funds. UCS seems similar - the money goes to force carbon caps and other specious "science" on us.

I do note that their worries about "biofuels" are valid, and I share them.

Thanks, Julie.

Malaria

It kills millions. Fortunately, there is a simple way to prevent many cases - kill the mosquitoes that carry the disease with an easily produced pesticide - DDT.

Unfortunately, DDT was banned in the 1970's because of overblown fears that it would kill off bald eagles, etc. The World Health Organization advocated the use of DDT to control malaria in 2006, after studies showed it to be the most effective defense.

Now, the UN is getting into the act.
+++++++++++++

Should DDT Be Used to Combat Malaria?

DDT should be used "with caution" in combating malaria, a panel of scientists reported today
 | May 4, 2009

A panel of scientists recommended today that the spraying of DDT in malaria-plagued Africa and Asia should be greatly reduced because people are exposed in their homes to high levels that may cause serious health effects.

The scientists from the United States and South Africa said the insecticide, banned decades ago in most of the world, should only be used as a last resort in combating malaria.

The stance of the panel, led by a University of California epidemiologist, is likely to be controversial with public health officials. Use of DDT to fight malaria has been increasing since it was endorsed in 2006 by the World Health Organization and the President's Malaria Initiative, a U.S. aid program launched by former President Bush.

In many African countries, as well as India and North Korea, the pesticide is sprayed inside homes and buildings to kill mosquitoes that carry malaria.

Malaria is one of the world's most deadly diseases, each year killing about 880,000 people, mostly children in sub-Saharan Africa, according to the World Health Organization.
+++++++++++++
Again with the "may cause health effects". We should let millions die because tens or even hundreds might get sick.

There is a malaria vaccine that shows some progress - funded by Bill Gates' foundation. DDT, however, is fast and sure, and if properly used, safe.

The war is over!

Osama says so:

2012 Friend --

I'm James Kvaal, the new policy director for President Obama's 2012 campaign. You'll be hearing from me occasionally about the President's policies and those of our opponents, and how we can all help bring about change for our country.

Yesterday, we accomplished one major change when President Obama announced that all American troops in Iraq will be home before the holidays.

With that action, the Iraq war will end. And one of the President's central promises will have been kept.

Both as Americans and as supporters of President Obama, this is something for us to reflect on, and be proud of.

Watch the video of the President's announcement -- then please pass this on:

The war in Iraq was a divisive, defining issue in our country for nearly nine years, and was the catalyst for many Americans to get involved in politics for the first time.

Now, thanks to the actions of this President, we can say that conflict is coming to a close.

The end of this war reflects a larger transition in our foreign policy as, in the President's words, "the tide of war is receding." The drawdown in Iraq has allowed us to refocus on the fight against al Qaeda, even as we begin to bring troops home from Afghanistan. And of course, this week also marked the definitive end of the Qaddafi regime in Libya.

These outcomes are an example of what happens when a leader sets a plan and sees it through. In the last campaign, the President committed to getting American troops home while leaving behind a stable and secure Iraq. You rallied around that vision, and now that promise has been fulfilled.

On behalf of this campaign and supporters of the President across the country, I want to thank the more than 1 million Americans who have served in Iraq, and all those who worked to make this possible.

Thanks,

James

"a stable and secure Iraq." Let's see how well that works out once we leave.

The trouble is you don't "end" a war by walking away. This has been proven over and over - Vietnam, the Soviets in Afghanistan, Korea, the first Iraq war - all you do is give up.

Walking away from Iraq will not cause instant peace. It will likely just free up manpower for Afghanistan, or Africa. Those hundred advisers Osama sent in could easily become another Vietnam.

It certainly will not remove the threat of terrorist attacks on American soil - the big reason we were over there in the first place.

Let's hear from some of the servicemen who served and risked life and limb in Iraq. How do they feel?

This is only a test...

I hope...

Did You Know Feds Will Temporarily Cut Off All TV and Radio Broadcasts on Nov. 9?

Posted on October 22, 2011 at 12:07pm by

If you have ever wondered about the government’s ability to control the civilian airwaves, you will have your answer on November 9th.

On that day, federal authorities are going to shut off all television and radio communications simultaneously at 2:00PM EST to complete the first ever test of the national Emergency Alert System (EAS).

This isn’t a wild conspiracy theory. The upcoming test is posted on the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau website.

Only the President has the authority to activate EAS at the national level, and he has delegated that authority to the Director of FEMA.  The test will be conducted jointly by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through  FEMA, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS).

In essence, the authority to seize control of all television and civilian communication has been asserted by the executive branch and handed to a government agency.

The EAS has been around since 1994. Its precursor, the Emergency Broadcast System (EBS), started back in 1963.  Television and radio broadcasters, satellite radio and satellite television providers,  cable television and wireline video providers are all involved in the system.

So this begs the question: is the first ever national EAS test really a big deal?

Probably not. At least, not yet.

But there are some troubling factors all coming together right now that could conceivably trigger a real usage of the EAS system in the not too distant future.  A European financial collapse could bring down U.S. markets. What is now the “Occupy” movement could lead to widespread civil unrest. And there are ominous signs that radical groups such as Anonymous will attempt something major on November 5th- Guy Fawke’s day.

Now we know in the event of a major crisis, the American people will be told with one voice, at the same time, about an emergency.

All thats left to determine is who will have control of the EAS when that day comes, and what their message will be.

I have to agree with that - this is not a "test", it's a "demonstration" of the federal government's power, as blatant as possible.

I wonder if the Internet will be affected as some other commenters wonder.

Interest-ing

My take on taxes, expanded

I've written on my views on government and taxes a number of times, but want to make some fine points clear.

I advocate elimination of all taxation except for a national sales tax on retail corporate sales. This follows the health of the economy directly, and people who buy more stuff pay more tax. No exemptions, deductions, no nothing. No IRS. No record-keeping for individuals and privately-held businesses. Any corporation with shareholders adds 5% of the value of their goods to the sale price, and remits it directly to a federal clearing house, which remits it back to the states in direct proportion to their populations.

I have heard criticism of this scheme as a "value-added tax", in that sales from each level of production would be taxed. That is not what I propose. The tax would only be on the final sale - for instance, a company that bought trucks for internal use would pay the tax, but a company that bought truck chassis and built bodies, then sold the completed trucks would not pay tax on the chassis, only on the final product, and the final purchaser would be paying the tax in any case. A similar scheme as found in most states now, where commercial purchasers get a letter from the state exempting them from sales taxes.

Perhaps this needs to be better defined - any corporation that sells at a retail sale a finished good collects the tax on every sale. A "finished good" is defined as anything that is usable as purchased, without needing further processing or treatment. So, sales of ores mined would be tax-free, as would iron ingots from the smelter and structural steel or bulk plumbing pipe sold to another corporation. Semi-finished items, like those truck chassis, would also be non-taxable.Crops grown would be tax-free until sold to the end consumer.

This has the effect of having all taxes paid by the people or corporations actually using the end products. "Rich" people would presumably buy a lot more and higher priced goods than the "poor", so there is a "progressive" effect for those who think the "rich" should pay their "fair share". The actual tax rate would be fixed and extremely difficult for the government to increase. I'm still thinking 5% would be enough for all levels of government in a truly civilized nation, with half reverting to the states in proportion to population, and half remaining to provide the functions the federal government is legally allowed to perform by the Constitution.

What am I missing? I want to reduce government to its' legal limits, and remove governmental intrusions into the lives of the people. Corporations are not persons, and have no right of privacy - indeed, to have their accounting open for all to see might reduce the possibility of corporate crimes such as Enron in the future. I see no possibility of this causing problems in research and development or trade secrets, since the only data collected would be gross retail sales.

Enforcement. Laws without penalties for violation are worthless. I propose that any corporation found to be cheating on this tax be fined 100% of their sales for the period of misreporting.

What motive remains for anyone to misstate sales so as to reduce the amount they pay? The seller does not have any costs related to taxes past adding 5% to the sales price of an item and putting that 5% into a special account for the tax payment. It's got to be an order of magnitude or three cheaper than having the small army of tax lawyers and accountants on staff that is required under today's tax codes.

If this makes sense, let me know. If I'm completely off the rails, or just need to make some course corrections, likewise, let me know.

Feast or famine

Seems like the famine is over, at least for two weeks.

Got a call from one of the employment agencies I list with - they have a two-week job disassembling machinery down in Illinois, right down the road from where I used to live.

It pays good enough to make the commute worthwhile, and since Wisconsin's unemployment bureaucrats decided for some reason to stop sending me weekly checks for the next few weeks, it comes at a very opportune time.

It might result in a permanent position, as the company doing the contracting is known for hiring people who do temporary work for them. The agency guy also said one of his clients is always looking for EEs, so fingers crossed there, too.

When I got home from doing paperwork, I found a message from another agency - they wanted me to interview for a maintenance position in Rockford next week. Had to tell them I couldn't do it for at least two weeks - if it's still there, I'll try for it.

So - two opportunities on top of each other, after the whole summer looking.

Progressives, Islamists huddle at Justice Department

Top Justice Department officials convened a meeting Wednesday where invited Islamist advocates lobbied them for cutbacks in anti-terror funding, changes in agents’ training manuals, additional curbs on investigators and a legal declaration that U.S. citizens’ criticism of Islam constitutes racial discrimination.

The department’s “civil rights lawyers are top of the line — I say this with utter honesty — I know they can come up with a way” to redefine criticism as discrimination, said Sahar Aziz, a female, Egyptian-American lawyer.
++++++++++++++++
If Islam was a race, this might be legitimate - but since Islam is a political system masquerading as a religion, it's fair game for critics to tear holes in.

Besides. the First Amendment not only protects out right to say what we want about Islam, as long as it's accurate, but it protects our right to NOT be subjected to "religions" we don't want to become part of - which would be the case if these people get sharia law established as legitimate here.

Chuck --

It's game time.

Just over two weeks from now, we'll be one year out from the 2012 election. The choices we make today will help determine how many Tea Party Republicans we can afford to target for defeat in 2012.

We have recruited a groundbreaking 60 Democratic candidates to compete in Republican-held or open seats. Many of these districts are held by Republicans who voted to destroy Medicare to fund tax cuts for Big Oil and Billionaires.

With just 25 Republican-held seats between us and a Democratic Majority this achievement represents a giant step down the path to victory in 2012.

But our candidates are already under attack from the radical right, and it's only going to get worse. They must have the resources they need to fight back.

That's why I'm asking you to join our Victory Partners Program and pledge your ongoing support from now through Election Day.

Victory Partners are a dedicated group of grassroots Democrats who spread out their support by making modest monthly donations. This ensures we have the steady, reliable resources we need to support our Democratic candidates and hold Republicans accountable for voting to end Medicare and blocking President Obama's American Jobs Act.

I have set a goal of recruiting 600 new Victory Partners in the next 24-hours -- ten for each Democratic Challenger -- to show our candidates that grassroots Democrats are ready to stand with them and hold Tea Party Republicans accountable every step of the way through the 2012 election.

You can pledge just $3 on your credit card, and you may cancel your Victory Partners membership at any time.

Join our Victory Partners program today and help drive our Democratic candidates to victory in 2012.

We hit our candidate recruitment goal three months ahead of schedule. We have the momentum. But we need you with us. Join with our Democratic candidates by becoming a Victory Partner right now.

Thank you.

Sneaky business behind the scenes:
+++++++++++++++
Date Published: October 20, 2011

Someone was incredibly busy in June 2008 working on an illegal front invisible to the public; searching and altering Supreme Court Cases published at Justia.com which cite the only case in American history - Minor v. Happersett (1875) - to directly construe Article 2 Section 1's natural-born citizen clause in determining a citizenship issue as part of its holding and precedent.  In this unanimous decision, the Supreme Court defined a "native or natural-born citizen" as a person born in the US to parents who were citizens; a definition which excludes from eligibility both Barack Obama and John McCain.

In June 2008 no one was discussing Minor v. Happersett 88 US 162 (1875) with regard to Obama. In fact, those who were discussing the then Senator’s citizenship status had focused instead on his birth in Hawaii in a attempt to prove the future president was not born in the United States despite publication of the Senator’s short form computer generated Birth Certificate. It would not be until October of 2008 that Barack Hussein Obama’s eligibility would be questioned as to his status as a dual citizen at the time of his birth.

Meanwhile, at the “Supreme Court Center” of the influential legal research website Justia.com, efforts were underway corrupting at least 25 Supreme Court cases by erasing references to the words "Minor V. Happersett" along with references to other relevant cases on the issue along with the insertion of misleading numerical ciations.  And In two documented cases actual text was removed.
Clearly this was done in these specific cases in order to prevent their being found by internet researchers long before anyone had even begun to look for them, even before Obama would win the Democratic Nomination at the DNC Convention in Denver, Colorado in August '08. This is premeditation and intent to deceive.

So far, 25 corrupted SCOTUS have been identified, and this number may continue to rise as the scope of the tampering becomes apparent. These cases all relied upon Minor, some specifically referencing its definition of Natural Born Citizen - a definition which makes Obama ineligible to be President as that definition is part of the holding and continuing precedent, issued from the highest court in our nation making it the law of the land, even now.

The most extreme sabotage so far discovered appears to have been done to the landmark decision United States v. Wong Kim Ark which was sabotaged to remove "Minor v. Happersett" three times, along with one reference to "Scott v Sandford", another to the Slaughterhouse Cases  and some accompanying text relevant to the issue. These surgical alterations would alter and shape the national dialogue; leaving a persistent and  incorrect interpretation of the meaning of the 'natural born citizen' clause. There is no doubt whatsoever that this was the specific intent of those responsible for this illegal editing of American history and law.

Car Company Gets U.S. Loan, Builds Cars In Finland

With the approval of the Obama administration, an electric car company that received a $529 million federal government loan guarantee is assembling its first line of cars in Finland, saying it could not find a facility in the United States capable of doing the work.

Vice President Joseph Biden heralded the Energy Department's $529 million loan to the start-up electric car company called Fisker as a bright new path to thousands of American manufacturing jobs. But two years after the loan was announced, the company's manufacturing jobs are still limited to the assembly of the flashy electric Fisker Karma sports car in Finland.

Romney commits political suicide on YouTube

At least among real conservatives.

Found here.

Kohl's answer to my Solyndra query

A while back, I filled out one of those "action" things that I get by the ton, which resulted in an email sent to my Senators and Representatives requesting they look into Solyndra.

So far, only Herb Kohl has responded:
+++++++++++++++
Dear Mr. Kuecker:

Thank you for contacting me about the bankruptcy of solar manufacturer Solyndra.  It is prudent, especially in these tight budget times, to monitor the investments that the federal government makes.  When a company supported by government loan guarantees goes bankrupt, it is fair to ask why.

Recent reports indicate that Solyndra had been in financial trouble for some time.  The official overseeing the Department of Energy loan program that backed Solyndra has resigned, and Congress continues to investigate the situation.  Taxpayers deserve to know what happened to this company, and the Department of Energy should be held accountable for continuing to back Solyndra even after many signs warned of its financial instability.

With that said, investing in new technologies always involves some risk.  Government backing has been responsible for many breakthroughs over the years.  Government should not take on undue or irresponsible risk, but neither should it give up on encouraging clean energy manufacturing.  Creating new jobs and technology is worth a strong, determined effort.  We shouldn't shy away from it because of one failure.

I'll be sure to keep your concerns in mind as this issue develops in the coming weeks.  Thank you very much for contacting me.
                                                                           Sincerely,

                                                                           Herb Kohl
                                                                           United States Senator

+++++++++++++++
So - the Department of Energy is as incompetent as Eric Holder and his Department of Justice? I note you are not demanding an investigation.

I beg to differ, Senator. Government backing has certainly helped some researchers get to their discoveries, but I challenge you to show me ONE circumstance where "government backing" alone was responsible for a technology that actually helped build America's technological base.

OK, I can name one - nuclear power, and offshoot of the Manhattan Project via the US Navy. However, the original discovery that gave us the direction was by German chemists in the 1930's.

Everything else was funded by corporations or universities - federal money might have helped, but it never to my knowledge has alone produced useful results.

The only jobs government creates are overpaid and create little of value for America.

Union Print Shop Sabotages GOP Bumper Stickers

Waymaker Communications, a full-service printing company based in Powder Springs, Georgia, contracted with another printing company to print some specialty bumper stickers for a client. The Bumper stickers were of GOP presidential candidates Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Rick Perry, and Ron Paul. When the boxes were opened, the owners noticed some design on the front of the bumper stickers. A big and bold union label had been added: “Sign Display. Painters and Allied Trades, No. 1 Local 820.″

Waymaker has a long history with this company. The owners believe that one or more of the employees wanted to make a political statement. Of course, Waymaker doesn’t mind if union workers want to express themselves politically. But they need to do it on their own dime!

Can you imagine what would happen if some union shop decided to put a union label logo on the front of Polo shirts, Bantam book covers, and dress pants from Jos. A. Bank without permission from the companies?

This job cost the printer money because the bumper stickers were rejected. They will have to be reprinted without the union label. I wonder if the shop owners will make the union workers who decided to express themselves by sabotaging Waymaker’s products pay for the job and possible future lost business. I doubt it. The owners most likely fear retaliation from the union workers.

Chuck --

Today they hit a new low.

The extreme right wing has launched an outrageous attack to distract us from their reckless economic policies: They are questioning my commitment to my own religion.

Hard working people are standing with middle income families across the country who are angry about Republican policies that failed them. The American people are outraged, and they have every right to be.

In response, over the last 24 hours, National Republicans have started personally attacking me by questioning my commitment to my own Jewish community.

I’m proud of my Jewish faith and heritage, of my leadership for Israel’s safety and security and my strong fight against the serious threats of anti-Semitism. It is outrageous that national Republicans are questioning that.

Please stand with us and sign our petition to the NRCC and Washington Republicans to stop the disgraceful attacks and start a real debate about jobs and how we can move America forward.

They’re attacking me to try to silence you -- because they think it’s wrong that you’re frustrated and even angry about what Republicans are trying to do to this country. The personal attacks they’ve launched on me for standing with you are nothing in comparison to the hardships faced by middle income families across America every day.

Americans deserve a debate about our ideas. They deserve answers and solutions that rebuild the middle class and restore the American dream. They deserve representatives that make the middle class a priority again.

They can come at me as hard as they want, but I’m not backing down. Will you continue to stand with me? Stand with us today

What planet do you live on, Harry?

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Wednesday indicated Congress needs to worry about government jobs more than private-sector jobs, and that this is why Senate Democrats are pushing a bill aimed at shoring up teachers and first-responders.

"It's very clear that private-sector jobs have been doing just fine; it's the public-sector jobs where we've lost huge numbers, and that's what this legislation is all about," Reid said on the Senate floor.

ATF priorities: Smuggle guns to drug cartels, arrest cigarette smugglers

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms may have knowingly allowed thousands of guns to be trafficked across the U.S.–Mexican border in the botched Operation Fast and Furious, but don’t worry! The agency is busy keeping Americans safe from the scourge of cigarette trafficking.

The ATF announced Wednesday that, in conjunction with Georgia law enforcement agencies, it had executed seven search warrants and 50 arrest warrants as part of a three-year investigation for violations of state law involving the illegal possession, sale and distribution of contraband cigarettes.

More cyber-warfare

Stuxnet gets upgraded.
+++++++++++++++++

Is ‘SON of STUXNET’ gearing up for another major cyberattack on Iran?

Most often attributed to Israel and sometimes to the U.S. as well, if the STUXNET virus was the atom bomb of cyberwarfare, then the discovery this week of the ‘DUQU’ virus is the hydrogen bomb, security experts are warning.  It is the second major weaponized virus to turn computers into lethal weapons with devastating destructive power.

(If you check the links at the end, you will note that Stuxnet was built to be virtually immortal, infecting its targets with a worm that destroys computerized systems covertly, and has the ability to lie dormant for months or years until it re-activates itself automatically to stage another attack. With the discovery of the existence of  Stuxnet 2 called Duqu, it is likely that Stuxnet is getting ready for another cyber attack, having re-generated itself into a new format)

FOX NEWS  The new program, discovered by Symantec on Tuesday with the help of an unnamed research lab, uses much of the same code as the 2010 Stuxnet virus did. But instead of destroying the systems it infects, Duqu secretly penetrates them and, according to some experts, creates “back door” vulnerabilities that can be exploited to destroy the networks at any time its creators may choose.
+++++++++++++++++
I doubt Stuxnet has "re-generated itself". Code cannot re-write itself. Not even suspected Israeli super-viruses.

Contrary to some people's ideas, computer code and viruses are not living things, and do not "mutate" on their own. It takes a programmer (God, to computer programs) to change them to add capabilities or change the way they work.Natural selection does not enter the picture. There's no Darwin for code, other than the free market.

Yes, there is "self-modifying code" out there - it's generally thought of as a bad idea by good programmers, as the self-modifications sometimes end up doing bad things. Those bad things manifest themselves as bugs or program crashes - not cunning changes of function.

If a virus can be detected, it can be eliminated from the system. The process of cleaning might be very difficult, but it is possible. Damage to systems can only occur if the virus is allowed to execute.

President Osama speechless!

Damn - not for long enough.

TOTUS Abducted – White House Left Speechless

Posted by Jim Hoft on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, 5:17 AM

You just can’t make this up.

TOTUS was stolen.

TOTUS was abducted this week in Henrico just days before his visit to Chesterfield.
The TelePrompter of the United States was stolen last night along with other equipment belonging to the White House.

NBC 12 reported:

NBC12 has uncovered one of those stories that makes you think: “How in the world does that happen?!” A truck filled with President Obama’s podiums and audio equipment was stolen in Henrico just days before his visit to Chesterfield.

We confirmed an investigation with the U.S. Defense Department. There are still a lot of questions. The biggest one being did the thieves intentionally target the President’s truck or did they take advantage of a crime of opportunity and give a big “uh-oh” when they saw what was inside.

When you see President Obama speak, there is a pretty typical setup including the presidential seal on a podium, the see-thru Teleprompter and a portable sound system.
Thieves saw the truck carrying that equipment and couldn’t resist the target.

We’re told the truck was parked at the Virginia Center Commons Courtyard Marriott in advance on Wednesday’s presidential visit to Chesterfield.
+++++++++++++++
The people running Osama's public appearances can't lock a truck?

I particularly liked this:
Sources said inside that vehicle was about $200,000 worth of sound equipment, several podiums and presidential seals, behind which only the President himself can stand.
Excuse me? If I want to "stand behind a Presidential seal", I'll do it. Enough people on Saturday Night Live and in movies have done so, and that seal is property of the people of the USA, not the President. He just gets to use it until we fire him.

Unintended consequences

Many public school districts offered early retirement to teachers to cut down on expenses. Many Wisconsin teachers "quit" over Governor Walker's public union control legislation.

Well, guess what?
+++++++++++++++
By M.D. Kittle | Wisconsin Reporter

MADISON — A stampede of retirees made their way out the door this summer in the Superior School District.

Monica Tikkanen, the district’s director of human resources, counted 45 retirees, about 10 percent of the workforce, the most she’s seen in her 25-year career.

She blames Act 10, the controversial law that, along with curtailing collective bargaining for Wisconsin’s public employees, requires them to kick in more for health insurance costs and contribute 5.8 percent of their salary to their pensions.

This story has played out in many parts of the state, like the Madison Metropolitan School District, where the human resources department reported more than 180 retirees in a district of some 3,500 employees.

“They thought a bird in the hand is better,” Tikkanen said of the rush of retirements in Superior. “These were people who were not ready to go yet. We lost experience, wisdom, great employees.”

That experience didn’t depart for good, though.

Tikkanen said an “inordinate number” of retired employees, 33 by her count, returned to Superior’s public school system, at least on a part-time basis. A few are working full time.

They all are designated as rehired annuitants on state pension and federal tax codes. And while their experience and knowledge may be prized by school districts, the class of public employees is costing  taxpayers in a practice commonly referred to as double-dipping.
+++++++++++++++
So, of course, our legislature has to enact new laws to prevent retirees from taking new public jobs, or something.

They will never learn. Pass a law to "fix" some perceived issue, and you end up with worse problems later on.

In this case, Walker's new law did not go far enough. He should have eliminated ALL public unions, root and branch. FDR had it right back when his "New Deal" prohibited public unions - one of the few good things I can find to say about the man.

Still looking

Had two job interviews today. One was for a part-time TIG/MIG welder at the Broaster Co., the other was for a MIG welder at Morgan Truck Body.

The last time I used a TIG torch was in 2003, welding aluminum. Broaster wanted someone to make liquid-proof welds on thin stainless. I managed to burn some nice holes in the test metal. Oh, well. Noticed they use digital controllers similar to the kind of thing I have done dozens of times, and left them with my engineering business card - you never know.

Went up to Janesville and interviewed at Morgan. They had a nice Miller MIG welder, and asked me to make a vertical tee weld and an overhead tee weld. I managed to do those without making holes, but the penetration was not good enough.

Got a lead on a possible electrical engineering position while talking to someone at Morgan - sent them my big resume. So, not a total loss.

Got a couple of nice plant tours out of it, anyway.

CCW follies

+++++++++++++++

By Kevin Binversie

It does not have to be this complicated.

After fighting years of opposition including multiple vetoes by former Gov. Jim Doyle, a notorious gun rights opponent, and a non-stop disinformation campaign from opponents, Wisconsin this spring left Illinois in the dust and joined 48 other states allowing citizens to carry concealed weapons.

Starting Nov. 1, law-abiding Wisconsin residents can apply for permits to carry either a concealed handgun or concealed knife if they pass a background check.

Another requirement is a training course to ensure those legally carrying concealed weapons know their weapons and know how to use them safely. What’s been fiercely debated during the past few weeks is the length of that training, what is taught and what constitutes a completed course.

You would think those who long opposed concealed carry would be the final hurdle for this right? How, as a final gasp of breath, those who’ve been making their living trying to compare life in a Wisconsin where honest people carry concealed weapons to the Wild West or a war zone would be doing all they can to stop implementation of the law?

Instead Wisconsin Department of Justice and the National Rifle Association are butting heads. Law-abiding people of Wisconsin are caught in the middle.

+++++++++++++++
Further on in the article, we find this:
All sides are right and all sides are wrong in this argument. DOJ and Wisconsin law enforcement – not to mention all citizens — have a very legitimate concern about ensuring that the hundreds if not thousands of Wisconsinites now legally carrying concealed weapons are familiar with what they hold. Yet a one-size-fits-all approach to training may be unnecessary to the gun owner who’s been using firearms from a young age and has taken a hunter safety course.
Pardon me?  "hundreds if not thousands of Wisconsinites now legally carrying concealed weapons"?
Italics mine.

Why did we need a CCW law if that is so?

Beloit to consider gun bans

The City of Beloit is thinking of jumping on the free-fire zone bandwagon. From the city newsletter:
NEW CONCEALED CARRY LAW GOING INTO EFFECT NOVEMBER 1, 2011
 Although we have been busy with the budget, we did take a few minutes this week to meet with representatives from the City Attorney's office to discuss the new Concealed Carry Law, which goes into effect on November 1, 2011. the law includes some modifications and will necessitate some changes to the existing City Municipal Code related to carrying firearms and weapons into public facilities. After discussing a number of alternative approaches, we decided to prepare a draft ordinance for Council's consideration that would prohibit the carrying of concealed weapons in most city facilities. The draft ordinance, along with a staff report, which will include other options and alternatives for Council's consideration, will be included on the November 7, 2011 agenda for Council consideration.
Note that the PDF linked above does not allow copying, so I had to type the quote. Any typos or misquotes are mine.

The agenda for the meeting so far mentions nothing of the sort.

It will be fun to go to that meeting and see if the subject is broached, and if so, to ask them how they will enforce it to ensure that no crazy with a gun gets into any proscribed area.

OOPS. The agenda I linked is for October 17th. Woke up too early this morning.

Osama does not like 9-9-9

Of course not - he has nothing to offer except more debt, higher taxes, and early death by committee.
++++++++++++++++++
Obama criticizes Cain's 9-9-9 tax plan

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama says GOP presidential hopeful Herman Cain's 9-9-9 tax plan would be a "huge burden" on middle-class and working families.

The president says Cain's plan would make sure that the wealthiest pay less - and replace the revenue with a sales tax hitting the less well-off.

Obama said that approach isn't new. And he said that across the board he hasn't heard any new ideas on helping the economy from Republicans, either in Congress or the candidates.
++++++++++++++++++
So, the cost of gasoline and Osama's energy plans to cripple the coal industry won't affect the middle class at all. Right.

What is the difference between "middle class" and "working families"?

I bet if you look at it, you find out that "the wealthy" buy a lot more stuff than the "less well off", and so would pay a lot more in sales tax.

Osama hasn't heard any new ideas on helping the economy, because the only person on Earth worth his listening to is himself. How could anyone else possibly have an idea, let alone a good one?

Windmills to shut at night following demise of rare bat

LILLY — Night operation of the windmills in the North Allegheny Windpower Project has been halted following discovery of a dead Indiana bat under one of the turbines, an official with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said Monday.

The finding marks only the second location where an Indiana bat has been found dead under a wind turbine. Two Indiana bats were found under turbines in the Mid-west, said Clint Riley, supervisor for Fish and Wildlife’s Pennsylvania field office.

“While finding the dead bat is not good news for any of us, it does show the monitoring works,” Riley said from his State College office.

The find is significant because the Indiana bat is an endangered species and is protected by the federal Endangered Species Act.

Of course, shutting down the windmills at night just about doubles the cost of the things. So now, instead of costing five times what nuclear electricity does, these things are now eight times as costly.

Wind power causes more deaths than nuclear power

While this post technically will go under the Green Tech category here at The Inquisitr it equally could go under the Funny category because it really would be funny if not for the fact that it is stupid.

According to the folks over at Treehugger there is an author over at The New American that is trying to make the case that wind power is more dangerous than nuclear power because there have been more wind power related deaths than the zero death rate encountered in the nuclear industry.

That’s right folks – the suggestion the author is making is that nuclear power is safer than wind power because there hasn’t been a single nuclear plant related death in 40 years. With the short life of wind power though we have a growing number of deaths; which Treehugger kindly listed out for us

Of course, those deaths are only humans, and so ignorable.
