Crazyness invading our politics?

I would have thought that it's been crazy for quite a few years now - ever since FDR, it's been getting worse. Lately, I see signs that we are regaining our national sanity.

Wineke: Craziness Is Pervading Our Political Climate

Posted: 5:02 pm CDT September 4, 2011By Bill Wineke

I'm sure someplace, somehow in this modern political climate we might find a sane practitioner -- but that person seems to be in hiding.

For now, craziness seems to be the word of the day.

In Tucson, Ariz., for example, the Pima County Republican Party recently auctioned off a Glock handgun as part of a fundraiser. The action raised a few eyebrows since, just nine months ago, a lunatic named Jared Loughner used a similar Glock to shoot a congresswoman, murder a federal judge, a little girl and four others and wound another 13 innocent bystanders.

Since one reason political parties raise money is to support their candidates, one might think it a bit insensitive to auction off a pistol resembling the one that shot the incumbent congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords, in the head.

One might think that, but the Republican Party of Pima didn't think that. It responded to the uproar by auctioning off a deer rifle as well.

Oh, well. I've given up on advocating gun control. We as a society have decided it is a good idea to have people walking around packing heat. The battle is won.

"The battle is won." This from a Madison liberal.

We are winning, but we have not yet won. Until all 50 states have Constitutional carry, the BATFE is disbanded, and we have reined in the federal government back to its' Constitutional limits, we still have battles to fight and win.

And then, we've got 50 state governments to chop down to THEIR Constitutional limits - and then, umpty-nine local governments to tackle.

We cannot rest until the last "progressive" has conceded defeat - and then, we must remember history and the warning that the price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
