Concealed carry threatens UWGB

With an increasing amount of violence on college campuses and throughout the United States the prospect of concealed carry is a frightening concept for American people.
Wisconsin became the 49th U.S. state to induct concealed carry legislation in June with a bi-partisan vote of 68-27. The bill was signed into law by Gov. Scott Walker in July and will allow citizens who pass a permit test to carry a concealed firearm.

The legislation raises concern of an increase in gun-related crimes or gun-related accidents in the state. If people are allowed to carry concealed weapons on their person, they will be more likely to use the weapon in a heated exchange.

Studies produced by the Utah Department of Public Safety say that states with concealed carry laws have shown mixed results. General trends show a decrease in crimes against individuals and an increase in property crimes.

Another concern is the increase in crime on college campuses. A string of on-campus shootings throughout the U.S. since the Columbine shootings in 1999 have increased the emphasis of police enforcement on college campuses

According to Jeff Gross, interim police chief for UW-Green Bay campus police, the legislation will have a negative effect on college campuses across the state.

He believes the legislation nullifies the UW System codes set in place to protect UW schools.

UW System codes are a set of laws that all UW system schools must abide by. The law found in UWS 18.10 states no person may carry, possess or use any dangerous weapon on university lands or in university buildings or facilities, except with written approval of the chief administrative officer or for law enforcement purposes.

Notice how Mr. Flores mentions the Columbine shootings and other crimes in designated "gun free zones" to argue that CCW will result in higher crime rates on campus.

My comment at their site:

The headline is an outright lie. Concealed carry "threatens" no one except those bent of destroying individual freedom, and those criminals desirous of an unarmed pool of victims.

None of the shooters at any of the recent incidents were allowed to carry a gun onto a campus or into a university building. They disobeyed that law, in their quest to disobey the law against murder.

Allowing adult persons to exercise their God-given right to self defense harms no one.

By all means "trust the law enforcement officer who know what they're doing" - good grammar, by the way - and remember:

"When seconds count, the police are only minutes away".
Chief Gross has one thing right - the Wisconsin CCW law indeed nullifies the UW rules that illegally infringe on the rights of anyone attending or visiting their campuses. It's about time these rules were nullified.
