Went back to the emergency room to have the stitches from last week's oops removed. The triage nurse did the work.
She opened a sterile prepack with a tweezers, small scissors, and gauze to do the job. After, the metal tweezers and scissors went into the sharps container - not to be reused.
I understand the concerns about iatrogenic infections and MRSA, but thought that medical hardware got cleaned and sterilized for reuse. Is this common practice now, or is the Beloit Memorial Hospital on the cutting edge of technology?
