Merry Chrtistmas from the NBA
So - the NBA is going to help Bloomberg fight "gun violence"
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/24/sports/basketball/nba-gun-violence-campaign-michael-bloomberg.html?_r=0
Of course, the way you fight a non-existent problem is by attacking inanimate objects that have legitimate use in protecting the lives of innocent people from criminals.
You can comment to the NBA here: http://contact.nba.com/contact-nba/
My note:
Professional basketball has no place for pandering to leftist scare mongers like Bloomberg and his anti-gun activists.
As long as your organization is supporting the disarmament of law-abiding Americans who are exercising their God-given right to self defense, as guaranteed by the Second Amendment of the Constitution, my family will not be patronizing any of your franchises.
Merry Christmas!
UPDATE: Got a reply from the NBA:

Dear Charles, Thank you for contacting us. The “End Gun Violence” public service announcement is solely to raise awareness about gun violence and personal safety in our communities. It does not advocate for gun control or any changes in law or policy. Through NBA Cares and alliances with organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the league and its players have consistently addressed the need for safe places to learn and play and the important role that adult mentors can have in the lives of young people. Thanks again for writing us. We appreciate your sharing your views. Sincerely, Aaron Stewart NBA Fan Relations
S0 - they are not for "gun control", just for "safe" places where legal guns are prohibited. I see now...

Paris
If Islam is to exist on this planet, it must change internally to actively fight the barbarians who have attacked Paris in the last few days, and who have perpetrated atrocities upon atrocities ever since the time of Mohammed.
When Muslim leaders step up and actively fight to end terrorism, we can start to see the end of this struggle.
Until then, we have only more terror to look forward to.
The only way to deal with these barbarians is to speak their language. Political correctness will only get civilized people killed.
France should announce that in thirty days, one of their thermonuclear weapons will detonate at ground level on the Kaaba stone in Mecca. The Saudis have that time to evacuate so no people die.
To avoid this, Muslim leaders must immediately and publicly disavow all terror tactics, including those parts of the Koran instructing Muslims to take over and convert all countries. They also must turn over any and all "religious" who have ever advocated terror, and all know terrorists, for trial in an international tribunal for crimes against humanity.
If the terrorists are turned over for justice, the bomb will not fall - but the Muslim world from this point on must actively root out terrorists - because at the NEXT attack on French soil, that bomb will be launched immediatly.
I wonder if that scenario would end terrorism, or would there still be "true believers" who would risk the loss of their holiest of holies?
I fear the latter is the truth, and simply threatening - or even carrying out any attack on Islamic holy sites will simply make the terrorists more determined. I see a continuing war on outfits like ISIS until the leaders of Islam take on the fight themselves. Perhaps a few hundred violent imams beheaded in public would help...
Here in America, we are currently hamstrung by our Constitution's First Amendment. If there were no prohibition on legislation concerning religion, we could simply outlaw Islam on our territories and jail anyone caught with a Koran or a prayer rug. That seems to have worked ever so well for pot smokers...
A Supreme Court ruling that Islam is NOT a religion would certainly help. How is "religion" defined under the law, anyway? There's got to be a fair amount of slop in there, or the US Government would never have persecuted the Mormons to drop polygamy from their creed. If that was legal, why can't we similarly go after any mosque or Muslim religious who advocates violence? A good start would be a law declaring "shariah" illegal on US territories.

Jugearscare Follies
So, I got a new job. It has "benefits".
One of them is "mandatory" health care - or pay a "fine". So, I logged into their web site and checked out the two (2) available Jugearscare eligible plans.
The "high deductible" plan is a mere $300 every week, for a total premium payment of $15,600.00. This plan allows you to go to the hospital or emergency room, pays for X-rays and such - you only have to come up with another $5000.00 per person - me and my wife - to satisfy the deductible. So, out-of-pocket so far is $25,600.00.
OK. Now the deductibles have been paid. Every doctor visit now costs $40 for the co-pay. Prescriptions are between $15 and $60 copay, depending. Emergency room visits are a mere $250 each. Similar deductibles and copays for other things like ambulance rides. What a bargain!
But wait! You don't have to pay all that! Jugears the Benevolent, through his angel Nancy Pee-lousy, has in his infinite mercy, given us a lower cost alternative..
For only $90 per week, you get zero deductible for doctor visits. Zero for preventative care. Zero for pregnancy care before the birth. Zero for prescriptions, if they are generic or "preferred".
Sounds good, huh? There's a small catch.
The "basic" Jugearscare plan gives you all the preceding "free" stuff at a minor cost.
No hospital coverage.
No coverage for X-rays or other imaging - they will pay for blood tests, though.
No coverage for the delivery room or any postpartum care.
No coverage for "non-preferred" medications. Need an exotic drug? Get fucked.
No ambulance coverage.
No mental health coverage.
No substance abuse coverage.
So, if you can't afford to spend $300 every week for your "mandatory" health insurance, you have a choice of spending $90 every week for a crock of shit, or paying 2.5% of your salary to the IRS in the "fine".
Another little tidbit - the money they steal from you for Jugearscare is taken out of your paycheck before they calculate taxes - so the low wage earner will have less Social Security taken out than usual. This could result in lower benefits for some people at the low end of the ladder. Another "get fucked" from CONgress and our emperor to the working man.
Jugears and crew are going to rot in everlasting fire in Hell if there is a God with any sense of justice.
It's a freaking miracle I didn't pull an Elvis and blow my monitors away. I guess I'm not your typical redneck gun nut.
Now, let's look at the actual costs of Jugearscare. My employer must pay the same amount I do - so even if I don't use any medical services, $31,200.00 has been taken out of the economy and given to an insurance company to cover all those who get the "free" coverage. There's your income redistribution.
And that is just for one employee. There are maybe 150 office workers in my company who all pay at least the same for coverage, with the company matching the thefts by the IRS. Just at this one company, at least $4.7 million stolen. This does not count the factory workers who probably make less and get hit harder.
How many employees in the United States? No wonder the insurance companies were lobbying for this under the table.
Oh, yeah - after I finished signing up, I went back to the benefits page - and found that they supposedly offered both a "bronze" and a "gold" plan, that since I had signed up already, I am ineligible to get. No big loss - they cost more than the crap I had to buy, with dubious extra value - and doesn't the Jugearscare law fine you for a "Cadillac" plan anyway?

I replied:
Hi, Michael, If you read my resume, you know I have absolutely no experience in benefits, nor any business attempting to apply for such a job. $28 / hour is less than the job I just was let go from, wherein I was starving in slow motion as the bills piled up. If you have any electrical engineering jobs or mechanical designer (Pro-E / Creo or Solidworks) jobs paying at least $50 / hour or $104K / year, I would like to hear about them. Regards, Chuck Kuecker, BSEE
"He" responds:

The feds ruined my car!
Well, not totally - just the rubber parts in the fuel system.
Federally mandated ethanol deteriorates the rubber used in most cars made before the 1980's.

That's the valve seal from my 1958 Karmann Ghia's fuel shutoff. It's swollen about 25% from the original size, The ragged holes correspond to the main fuel position. I'm going to have to make a new part - originals are no longer available.

Migrants?
The MSM spends a lot of time telling us about all the "migrants" from Syria presently invading Europe.
Another case of liberals redefining a word - these people are at best REFUGEES if not Muslim invaders.
Call a spade a spade. If Jugears brings any of these people here, as he has promised to, let's at least call them what they are - refugees.

Back together
The pressure plate was here when I got home yesterday. All clean and rebuilt.
So, after dinner, I started putting the tractor back together.
Rebuilt pressure plate and alignment tool in place. Needs tightening.
Left front tire going flat - and twisting the engine in relation to the transmission. Some air fixes that.
Don't forget to remove the alignment tool after torquing down the pressure plate! I made this in my machine shop.
Ready to mate it back together!
Long bolts used to help align the halves. The bottle jack under the transmission and the floor jack under the engine allow fine tuning, as does the sir pressure in the tires.
Rough line-up. The long bolts keep things more or less in line, but can't support any significant load.
You can see the dowel pin above the bolt that sets the exact position of the halves. This must be lined up perfectly, or it won't drive into the transmission housing hole. there's one on either side of the engine.
Almost there. Dowels lined up, clutch splines sliding into place. One has to finesse the gas tank bolts and the steering shaft into place in the last inch or so.
Mated. About an hour and a half from starting to here. Have to remember to torque that bolt behind the fuel filter!
Left side split line.
And - all back together. All that's left is putting the batteries, hood and front loader back. Three and a half hour's work up to here. Maybe another hour to finish.
From the front. Will finish tomorrow. Right now, time for a long hot bath!
Update - finished the reassembly this evening. Had a scare - smoke from under the dashboard when I touched the positive battery terminal connecting the batteries. There was a tiny bit of something metallic got between the ammeter terminal and the ammeter bracket - fell out when i took it apart trying to find the problem. No damage.
Clutch feels real good. Once it dries out a bit - it's pouring - I'll put the front loader back on and hook up the mower deck.

Never forget
Muslims killed over 3000 Americans 14 years ago tomorrow.
Video from the ISS:
Raw ground zero footage:
If Islam is truly a "religion of peace", Muslim leaders in places like Saudi Arabia will be the first hunting down and exterminating groups like ISIS. Since this has not happened, all I can think is that Muslim leaders have given tacit approval to terrorism and "fundamentalist" or "extremist" Islam.
I pray our next President can tell the difference between rhetoric and actions. Lots of talk from Muslims about love and peace, but anyone with eyes and ears can tell what the truth is.

Split yet again!
My Massey-Ferguson Super 90 is in two halves again. Last week, I
reported how the clutch was locked up. Today at 5 AM, I pulled it into
the garage and went to work.
This time, I took pictures:
Left side. Just pulled in.Left the front loader outside.
Right front. Small drip under the middle - motor oil? I did put a new rear main seal in.
Right side.
Concrete blocks, plywood, and a 1/8" steel sheet for the floor jack to roll on. 6 AM.
Bottle jack on blocks under the transmission.
Batteries. Heavy!
Front loader braces and supports undone. Hood and fenders off. Wiring and piping disconnected
Instrument panel opened, to get to the roll pin in the steering shaft.
Draining the coolant. If you don't, when you take the temperature sender out of the head, it leaks.
2 x 4 blocks between the axle and front casting to keep the engine from pivoting on the axle
There's another 2 x 4 between the gas tank and the valve cover, to support the tank, which normally rests on top of the battery box.
Split. 6:40 AM.Notice the two fuel lines that need to be disconnected so the power steering pipes can stay with the back of the tractor.
You can see the throttle and fuel shutoff linkages above the starter. Small pipe drains oil from the power steering unit back to the transmission.
Ready to pull the clutch. I can see the problem - one of the fingers on the pressure plate is stuck depressed.
Blurry close-up of the pressure plate - the finger on the right is stuck depressed. Smells like hot clutch.
My original thought was that one of the flywheel bolts came loose and jammed the clutch. Happened to me on a '66 Chevy C30 panel truck a long time ago. Not this time - all looks good here.
Clutch disk. No problems here.
Pressure plate LOOKS OK, but getting stuck like that indicates internal wear -so I ordered a new one. AGCO no longer stocks these - ordered from Tractor Joe's in St. Louis. Should ship next Tuesday.
So, the garage is occupied at least until next weekend.

Veteran's Administration survey
The VA is asking for "a million veterans" to participate in a survey about health and mental condition. The survey can be found here.
Knowing what the Jugears administration has already done to our veterans, I would just file the letter in the circular file, not even mark :"I do not want to participate".
Telling the government that you have periods of "feeling blue" or are suffering from PTSD could easily get you listed as a "risk" and barred from owning a firearm. Admitting to chronic pain could easily have the same result.
Beware.

Tractor fixed!
Finally got the tractor back together. Only took four splits - feels more like five.
The first time I put it back together, it seemed OK - until hydraulic fluid began pouring out from the starter. Split it again and replaced the 50-year-old rotten looking hoses in the clutch housing, and figured that would solve the problem.
Put it back together and stated it - still pouring fluid out of the clutch area. Got under and looked in while my son cranked it - oil coming out near the high pressure fitting. The new gasket between the front cover and trans housing had blown out because I had missed an O-ring.
Split it again. Found a suitable ring and put it back together again. Still leaking.
Went over the parts in the exploded drawing. The only culprits left were several O-rings in the fittings and the one I just replaced. Ordered all new rings and another gasket.
Got the parts Friday and split the tractor again. The O-ring I had put in slipped out of its' counter bore and got crushed. Replaced all the O-rings and the gasket, and carefully reassembled it. No leaks.
Mowed the firebreaks - and knocked the muffler apart on a dead tree branch. So, off to Farm and Fleet for a new muffler.
At least I can split the tractor in under three hours now...
Update 8/29 - last Tuesday I decided to go over the firebreaks again, as they need to be trimmed at least once a week to keep them neat. Made it around the west fields and about a third of the way around the east side - and the clutch locked up. Had this happen once in a Chevy C30 panel truck - bolts backed out of the flywheel and jammed the driven disc. I'll have to split the thing yet again to find out for sure, but there are no loose parts in the clutch housing, at least.
Oh - and about a quart of hydraulic fluid was in the bottom of the bell housing. Leftovers from the last time, or still leaking? This from about an hour of running.
Picked up a new muffler and a bucket of fluid - muffler in place, fluid waiting for a working clutch.
Since the firebreaks are mowed, it can wait a while - perhaps next weekend, which is a long one...

Why our society is so stupid
We have taught our kids to unlearn!
As usual, the public school system and political correctness take most of the blame - but parents are complicit in not teaching critical thinking and personal responsibility at home.

Store owner defends himself and his property
Two weeks ago in Milwaukee, a store owner saw some armed men casing his business, and then ram through the front door with a stolen vehicle. He defends himself with a rifle. Video at the link.
Perhaps I need to be watching the news a bit more.
Found at Sipsey Street Irregulars.
The owner of the store found out Wednesday he won't be charged in the shooting. As well he shouldn't be. Self-defense and defense of property from armed attackers is a basic right.
Perhaps I need to be watching the news a bit more.
Found at Sipsey Street Irregulars.
Instant karma?
Vin Suprynowicz has a good article on the recent shooting at the black church in SC:
If we don’t have ‘common-sense gun control’ now, time to start over
That's my opinion, too. There's a bit more to the story, that gives me the title of this post:“There is no greater coward than a criminal who enters a house of God and slaughters innocent people engaged in the study of scripture,” said Cornell William Brooks, president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, after a visitor to a Bible study group at the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church shot and killed the preacher and eight parishioners there in Charleston, South Carolina June 17.
I agree with Mr. Brooks. I hope we can all agree that when people arm themselves and travel to a church with the pre-arranged plan to open fire and kill people at that church –- peaceful, innocent people who have caused no one harm — that’s evil, and anyone who commits such an act should be charged with multiple felonies and put on trial.
Why didn’t anyone at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston — anyone but the attacker, that is to say — have and use a self-defense gun on the evening of June 17? It turns out it wasn’t just “bad luck.”
PASTOR DISARMED HIS PARISHIONERS
A board member for the National Rifle Association blames the gun-control position of South Carolina state Sen. Clementa Pinckney — the very same man who was killed with his parishioners in the Charleston church shooting — for the deaths of his congregation, Nick Gass of Politico reported on June 19.
If state Sen. -– who was also the Rev. -– Pinckney had voted to allow gun owners to carry their own weapons, Charles Cotton wrote, “eight of his church members … might be alive.”
In one thread discussing the previous day’s shooting at the Emanuel AME Church, a user with the name ShootDonTalk wrote: “Something else to consider: The pastor of this church, who was killed, is a State Legislator in S.C.”
“And he voted against concealed-carry,” 13-year NRA board member Cotton responded. “Eight of his church members who might be alive if he had expressly allowed members to carry handguns in church are dead. Innocent people died because of his position on a political issue.”
The bill that Pinckney voted against in 2011 would have permitted gun owners to bring guns into public places like churches and daycare centers. It ultimately failed.Read the whole article. Well worth your time.
I've said it before, and it can't be said enough - if guns are banned, only criminals and the police will have guns. And the criminals will not respect anyone's wishes as to "gun-free zones".
Just south of me, in the People's Republik of Ill-Annoys, the city of South Beloit has decided to post huge signs with a gun in a red circle-slash at the entrances to their parks. If they were honest about it, the sign would have the words "Free Fire Zone", or "No Self Defense Allowed" in large letters, so patrons do not mistakenly get the idea that "no guns" means "safe".

IRS rant
I know it's worthless to complain, but:
We files our 2014 tax return in February, using "E-File".
In early March, we got a letter from the IRS telling us our "refund" would be cut roughly in half, from what their E-File system calculated. OK, so we don't get what we expected. Easy come, easy go. We did get the reduced refund, and promptly spent it on overdue bills stemming from my then-recent layoff.
In April, we got another letter from the IRS - they want $2800 for taxes owed on our 2013 return, due to our not listing a "debt reduction" negotiated settlement of a credit card. We never received the 1099 that companies are required to send to people who get settlements like this, but they evidently DID send the information to the IRS so they could determine that we owe more.
First off, when we contacted with the lawyer to negotiate credit cards down, we were not told that any settlement would be treated by the IRS as a lump-sun increase in our income that year.
Secondly, why did the IRS not notice the discrepancy in our 2013 return before refunding almost double what we "owe" to us for 2014? I thought they deducted unpaid taxes from refunds.
I'm beginning to understand why some people go nuts.
To top it off, we recently got notices of MORE "settlements" from that lawyer - he's earning his keep, anyway - that will undoubtedly almost double our income this year, so in 2016 we will have to go into more debt to pay taxes on money we never saw.
There's been much talk of the "Fair Tax" where you pay a set percentage of your base pay to the government. It still will require the IRS to monitor people's personal lives lest they have an undocumented job, and will still require all those databases of American's financial dealings.
How about we abolish the IRS and all income taxes by Constitutional amendment. Make all government live off 5% or 10% of all retail sales exclusive of food, and shrink as needed to stay within budget. Let the various states donate 5% or 10% of their tax income to the federal government. The feds should never be bigger than 1/10 of 1% of the economy, defense included. This will provide a long-needed positive feedback mechanism for the government to actually help grow the economy rather than impede it.
Of course, this will mean a wholesale deconstruction of the federal government, and the layoffs of millions of useless drones, who will all go on unemployment until it runs out. Since all "entitlements" would also end, these drones would have to learn useful trades or starve.
Beautiful image. I won't hold my breath.

The View From Olympus: Chattanooga
Fourth Generation war visited Chattanooga last week at the cost of four Marines and one sailor dead. It was not the first instance of 4GW on American soil, and it will not be the last.
The killer was, again, Islamic. Islam is by no means the only non-state entity to which people may give their primary loyalty, but it is one of the more dangerous.
To diminish the risk of 4GW posed by Islam, we need to take two actions. The first is to stop Islamic immigration into this country, and not only Islamic immigration, but immigration by anyone who is likely to refuse to acculturate. All immigrants who refuse to become culturally American provide a base for 4GW.
The culturally Marxist Establishment insists on keeping the border open to such people because they help it attain its two main goals, first set by Gramsci in Italy and Lukacs in Hungary in l9l9, destroying Western culture and the Christian religion. Protecting ourselves from imported 4GW is “discrimination” in cultural Marxism’s vocabulary. In a 4GW world, any state that wants to survive will discriminate very carefully in terms of who it lets in.YES. I've been of this opinion for a long time. If an "immigrant" does not want to become an American, he should leave after visiting our country, not expect us to change to suit him.
I need to repeat my mantra - discrimination is good - it allows you to tell good from evil. Laws prohibiting "discrimination" are stupid in the max.
The second action we need to take is to stop messing around in other peoples’ parts of the globe. So ong as we keep hitting them with drone and air strikes, they will try to hit us back on our own soil. What else should we expect? That war is waged only by one side? Here, the problem is not the cultural Marxists but people who call themselves “conservatives”. They are not. Desires to rule the world and cram Brave New World down everyone else’s throat are anti-conservative. At root they are nationalist, and nationalism arose on the left, not on the right. Russell Kirk was no friend of nationalism. He goes on to discuss the "womanizing" of our country. This jives with my ideas of how to deal with Islamic extremists - though he's a bit nicer about it. I think we have nukes for just this kind of thing.
An America with a masculine culture would have replied to this and other incidents with what 4GW theory calls the “Hama model”. The President would have gone on television within a matter of hours to say to the nation, “As I am speaking, hundreds of American bombers are wiping the city of Raqqa off the map and killing every living thing in it. I warn all civilians in any other territory under the control of ISIS to flee. The same thing can happen to you.” Not only would this have hit ISIS hard physically, it would have deprived it of its base, a much more serious injury. If no civilians would remain in any area controlled by ISIS, ISIS could not function.Read the whole thing.

HMMM...
Just got this from a friend. Good questions to sak yourself long before November.
When you vote for an incumbent you
are perpetuating our government as
it is now. Nothing will change.
These three, short sentences tell you a
lot about the direction of our current
government and cultural
environment:

1.)
We are advised NOT to judge ALL Muslims
by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics.
Funny how that works. And here's another
one worth considering.
2.)
Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money.
How come we never hear about welfare or
food stamps running out of money?
What's interesting is the first group "worked for"
their money, but the second didn't.
Think about it.....
Last but not least:
3.)
Why are we cutting
benefits for our veterans, no pay raises
for our military and cutting our army to a level
lower than before WWII, but we are not
stopping payments to illegal aliens such
as monthly payments for each child, money for
housing, food stamps, free education
including college and also the right
to vote?

Obama admin looks to ban some Social Security recipients from owning guns
Video at the link.
The Obama administration wants to keep people collecting Social Security benefits from owning guns if it is determined they are unable to manage their own affairs, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The push, which could potentially affect millions whose monthly disability payments are handled by others, is intended to bring the Social Security Administration in line with laws that prevent gun sales to felons, drug addicts, immigrants in the United States illegally, and others, according to the paper.
The language of federal gun laws restricts ownership to people who are unable to manage their own affairs due to "marked subnormal intelligence, or mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease” – which could potentially affect a large group within Social Security, the LA Times reported. What do you expect from a born and bred Communist - he's using the same method of handling dissidents that his ideological homeland used - throw them into the loony bin.

Tractor follies
A couple weeks ago, the clutch started slipping badly in my Massey-Ferguson Super 90 tractor I use to mow firebreaks out back,
So - I split the tractor. Built up a couple supports out of concrete blocks and timbers, and put a metal plate on the support under the engine so I could use my big floor jack to move the engine away from the back of the tractor. My son Chris helped me roll the front wheels and guide the jack. Put a bottle jack under the engine to take the load off the floor jack.
Next thing I did was to drain the five gallons of Diesel fuel and oil out of the crankcase. The 300 CI Perkins is supposed to have seven quarts in the case. So, fuel lift pump leaking into the case. I hope I can find a rebuild kit, or a new pump assembly.
The clutch came apart with one broken bolt in the flywheel, and all the balls from the pilot bearing falling out when I removed the pressure plate. The throwout bearing is also noisy, so more parts to order.
There was a gallon or more oil in the clutch housing, so new crank seal, too.
Decided to top off the transmission while I was waiting for parts. The next morning, found a couple gallons of hydraulic oil on the floor. New seals on the pilot shaft and PTO shaft, too, and out comes the transmission. Easy job, if you have an engine hoist and a strong son to help.
Some photos:

Flywheel. Weighs about 80#. Drilled out the broken bolt and put in a Helicoil.
Parts on order. should have them next weekend.
