Many of us attend cons and other events which involve the transportation of computers, photography equipment, or other expensive tech in our bags. If our destination if far-flung, often air travel is involved... this almost always means being separated from our luggage for extended periods of time and entrusting its care to a litany of individuals with questionable ethics and training.

After a particularly horrible episode of baggage pilferage and tool theft, I made the decision to never again fly with an unlocked bag. However, all "TSA compliant" locks tend to be rather awful and provide little to no real security. It was for this reason that I now choose to fly with firearms at all times. Federal law allows me (in fact, it REQUIRES me) to lock my luggage with proper padlocks and does not permit any airport staffer to open my bags once they have left my possession.

In this talk, I will summarize the relevant laws and policies concerning travel with firearms. It's easier than you think, often adds little to no extra time to your schedule (indeed, it can EXPEDITE the check-in process sometimes), and is in my opinion the best way to prevent tampering and theft of bags during air travel.

College Republican Says Shooting Obama Is “Tempting”

Hours after Pennsylvania State Police arrested a 21-year-old Idaho man for allegedly firing a semi-automatic rifle at the White House, the top student official for the College Republicans at the University of Texas tweeted that the idea of assassinating President Obama was “tempting.”

At 2:29 p.m. ET, UT’s Lauren E. Pierce wrote: “Y’all as tempting as it may be, don’t shoot Obama. We need him to go down in history as the WORST president we’ve EVER had! #2012.”

Pierce, the president of the College Republicans at UT Austin, told ABC News the comment was a “joke” and that the “whole [shooting incident] was stupid.” Giggling, she said that an attempted assassination would “only make the situation worse.”

“Insofar as she’s a representative [of the College Republicans], maybe it shouldn’t be said, but she’s made a positive statement in a way, ” said Cassie Wright, the group’s vice president.

Frankly, I am surprised there haven't been more attempts - perhaps there have been, and they have been kept quiet.

I have to agree with her. Shoot Osama, you make him a martyr, and the loony left wins big on his coattails. Let him continue as he is, and he's going to lose against just about anyone who comes off as possibly able to lead.

As far as I am concerned, he's already got the award for worst President ever. Unless he suffers some sort of brain damage that makes him act like someone who actually likes America, he's not going to be able to change that fact.

History gives us a disturbing parallel - his spiritual mentor, FDR, was President during a depression, which his policies prolonged, FDR was responsible for many of the federal programs now dragging us ever deeper into debt, and was rescued by the Japanese attack on America, and the subsequent war - paid for by the American people, directly - that brought us up out of that depression. If the Japanese attack had not brought us into the war, the Great Depression might have lasted another decade, and the world would be a very different place - and many think FDR engineered that attack. Had he not presided over that war, he might now be vilified as the man who destroyed America in the 1930's and '40's.

 A Miami Gardens transgender woman is facing charges of practicing medicine without a license after police say she injected a patient's rear with everything but the kitchen sink in an illegal cosmetic surgery procedure. 

 

Oneal Ron Morris, 30, was arrested Friday after an investigation by Miami Gardens Police and the Florida Department of Health.

According to police, the victim saw Morris in May and was injected in her buttocks with a substance consisting of cement, "Fix a Flat," mineral oil and super glue.

The amateur incision was then sealed with super glue, police said. The victim was later hospitalized with a serious medical condition as a result of the injections.

Morris, who police say is a man but appears to look like a woman and sports an apparently enhanced rear herself in arrest photos, was being held on $7,500 bond. it was unknown whether she has an attorney.

Police believe there may be other victims of Morris who may be afraid to come forward. They said the victims haven't done anything illegal and shouldn't be afraid to come forward.

Credit card fraud

Just got bit. On the way home last night, I tried to use the card to fill up the car - refused.

I had gotten a letter Friday that said a card I had was suspended because of suspicious activity, but the card number didn't click with me, and I was in a hurry, so put off checking. Turns out it was the card I was trying to use last night - somehow, a "test charge" of $0.00 was made to "Proficio Mortgage", and then a $540.00 charge to a Wal-Mart in Lawrence, Kansas - which made the credit card people take notice and put a stop on the card. Another attempt to charge $350 was made after the stop was placed.

Talked to the people at the fraud line this morning - they removed the spurious charge and will be sending out a new card with a new number and an affidavit for me to sign attesting to the fraudulent charge.

My guess is that some online merchant I used recently either is hinky or had someone steal records from them.

Be careful out there.

Now, Wal-Mart will raise prices ever so slightly to cover their loss. I wonder how much inflation is due to fraud like this as opposed to the Fed printing money.

The army and police and government will not care and think one second about shooting or killing babies or children. Army and police are only holding back the killings because they do not want the mess and the cleanup job. Secondly they believe a killingspree might make people revolt and in such a case the army and police will really have to start the killings and believe it is a little too early for the people to accept this. But in about 15 to 20 years from now it will be common to see the police and army kill at random. They will kill anyone and especially people revolting. They will kill and send in a special force cleaning team and kill anyone trying to collect evidence.

Police andarmy will arrest at will and if someone tries to revolt they will just drop a huge bomb in the area and blaim it on the people or person revolting and the survivers will now revolt against thir own people until everyone complies.

We are living in Orson Wells world and it is even worse. In 20 years time it will be so bad that your socalled freedom is a thing of the past. Every single movement you make will be controlled and if you do something out of the dictated you will be killed or perhaps just have all your resouces plugged out like debit-figures in the bank and your smartphone key will be blocked to get inside your work and essentially you will be on a nomans land mission and you will dies from starvation eventually.


Secret spies are in every street allready and the mission is called full control. Technology is used to control you from the invention of TV to the atom bomb and the next invention to be used is the smartphone. Next invention will be the chipimplant which will promiss a life of heavensand without it you are lost. GPS build in and every transaction tracked. James Bond tried all the technologies they could invent for him and today his operation is so much more easy.

Say no and reinvent the world as we know it.

It is probably too late and will take perhaps 50 years from now to turn the ship. It is worse a try but persnally I believe stupidity looses hence we are lost no matter how hard the 99% tries. 90% of the 99% are uneducated and illiterates so the battle is on for sure.

Advanced Protection Group Wisconsin Basic Concealed Carry course

Yesterday, I attended a free Wisconsin Concealed Carry basic course presented by Mr. Dominic Ferraro of the Advanced Protection Group http://www.apgwi.com/. This is an eight-hour class that met the earlier requirements for the Wisconsin CCW license, before the training rules were restored to what our legislature intended.

I was very impressed by the presentation and breadth of coverage. Mr. Ferraro is a police officer and has been doing this kind of training for other states for quite a while.

I would recommend APG courses for anyone considering a Wisconsin CCW license. Even though our state law allows issuance of a license with any certification of gun safety or hunter training, I feel it is critical that anyone who wants to be armed in public know the law and the practical aspects of concealed carry and also be aware of the possible consequences and the responsibilities of anyone who carries a weapon for self-defense.

Know your gun, train, train, train, and know yourself. Be aware of your surroundings and the people around you as a matter of course.

Remember the Boy Scout motto, and be prepared. Be a sheepdog, not a sheep.

Obama USDA delays shale drilling, up to 200k jobs

President Obama's United States Department of Agriculture has delayed shale gas drilling in Ohio for up to six months by cancelling a mineral lease auction for Wayne National Forest (WNF). The move was taken in deference to environmentalists, on the pretext of studying the effects of hydraulic fracturing.

“Conditions have changed since the 2006 Forest Plan was developed," announced WNF Supervisor Anne Carey on Tuesday. "The technology used in the Utica & Marcellus Shale formations need to be studied to see if potential effects to the surface are significantly different than those identified in the Forest Plan." The study will take up to six months to complete. The WNF study reportedly "will focus solely on how it could affect forest land," despite the significance of hydraulic fracturing to united proponents of the delay, "and not how it could affect groundwater."

Speaking of the WNF gas drilling, one environmentalist group spokesman suggested that moving forward with drilling "could turn the Ohio Valley into Ozone Alley,"  even though Wayne National Forest already has nearly 1300 oil and gas wells in operation.

The Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program (OOGEEP) recently estimated that drilling in the Utica shale, which is affected by the suspension of the mineral lease auctions, would produce up 204,500 jobs by 2015.

"The President’s plan is to simply say ‘no’ to new energy production," House Natural Resources Committee chairman Doc Hastings, R-Wash, said to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar during a hearing pertaining to hydraulic fracturing. "It’s a plan that is sending American jobs overseas, forfeiting new revenue, and denying access to American energy that would lessen our dependence on hostile Middle Eastern oil."

Salazar denied that suggestion, noting the sales of mineral leases over the last two years, but he also affirmed environmentalist concerns. "The increasing use of hydraulic fracturing has raised a number of concerns about the potential impacts on water quality and availability, particularly with respect to the chemical composition of fracturing fluids and the methods used."

EU bans claim that water can prevent dehydration

Brussels bureaucrats were ridiculed yesterday after banning drink manufacturers from claiming that water can prevent dehydration.

EU officials concluded that, following a three-year investigation, there was no evidence to prove the previously undisputed fact.

Producers of bottled water are now forbidden by law from making the claim and will face a two-year jail sentence if they defy the edict, which comes into force in the UK next month.

Last night, critics claimed the EU was at odds with both science and common sense. Conservative MEP Roger Helmer said: “This is stupidity writ large.

“The euro is burning, the EU is falling apart and yet here they are: highly-paid, highly-pensioned officials worrying about the obvious qualities of water and trying to deny us the right to say what is patently true.

“If ever there were an episode which demonstrates the folly of the great European project then this is it.”

Oil and gas drilling in 30 states releases a slew of dangerous and toxic air pollution like smog-forming ozone, benzene and formaldehyde. Despite the serious respiratory and neurological impacts, the clean air rules governing drilling pollution haven't been updated since the 1980's. And many of the worst chemicals still aren't regulated at all. The EPA has proposed long-overdue updates to oil and gas air pollution rules and is accepting public comments until November 30th. Amidst mounting industry pressure, and mounting political pressure from within the Obama administration to cave to polluters ahead of the 2012 election, it's really important that the EPA hears our strong support. Tell the EPA: Stop toxic air pollution from oil and gas drilling. With the rapid expansion of oil and gas drilling — especially the controversial gas drilling process known as horizontal hydraulic fracturing, or fracking — these rules need to be implemented without delay. But the EPA has been under enormous pressure to delay or derail one clean air rule after another, as the agency works through the backlog of legally required clean air updates left in the wake of eight years of inaction and backsliding from the Bush Administration. Unfortunately, many of President Obama's advisers have gotten into the game too. Submit a comment now. Beloit Continues To Debate Concealed Carry Rules Within City Hall

Concealed Carry Ordinance To Be Discussed On Monday

BELOIT, Wis. -- Beloit city leaders are still debating whether to ban carrying concealed weapons at City Hall.

Those opposed to the possible city ordinance in Beloit argued a ban is meaningless without a plan to enforce it.

"The Constitution says it very clearly: 'The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed,'" said Town of Beloit resident Charles Kuecker.

Kuecker, a tea party member, said banning concealed carry in places like a city hall leaves area residents vulnerable.

"I think it's a really dumb thing to say we're going to ban weapons from a city building, and have no way to enforce this," Kuecker said. "I mean if they were going to hire off-duty Transportation Security Administration groper people to come and pat people down and metal detectors, then it would be a law with teeth."

"The Police Department will enforce any ordinance the city council passes, " said Capt. Vince Sciame, Beloit Police Department.Sciame said the possibility of having additional guns on city properties could make police officers' job more difficult.

"The state law to carry concealed is going to be a challenge for the Police Department, just because of the number of additional weapons that could be out there," Sciame said. "We are looking to make the transition as smooth as possible."

On his website, CKent.org, Kuecker has been encouraging people to arm themselves with information about state and federal gun laws. Whatever the outcome in Beloit, the lifelong gun enthusiast said he just wants his voice to be heard.

"I'd like them to understand there are people out there who feel strongly about this."

James E. Van De Bogart, the vice president of the Beloit City Council, said the ordinance was already read at a council meeting earlier this month. It will be read again at their meeting coming up on Monday.

Council members could vote at that time, or they could table it for a future date. There is a place on the agenda for public comments on Monday night.

Gun rights advocates argue ban in city buildings goes too far

Some local gun rights advocates say a proposed city ordinance banning weapons from city properties goes too far.

Wisconsin's newly enacted concealed carry laws, the critics argue, reaffirm every individuals' constitutional rights to bear arms, and those rights should not be interfered with by the proposed city ordinance.

"The right to bear arms is a personal right that should not be infringed," said Chuck Kuecker, a federally licensed firearms dealer whose business is located in the Town of Beloit. "We think the City of Beloit would be better off if they just accept the fact that the state of Wisconsin says individuals can carry if they're law-abiding citizens with a permit."

Kuecker, who identified himself as a Tea Party member, was among a small group of like-minded gentlemen at the Beloit City Council meeting Nov. 7, when the ordinance was read for the first time. The ordinance will face a second reading on Nov. 21, and the seven-member council will decide whether to vote on or table the measure at that time.

The ordinance's wording leaves councilors with four key decisions that will dictate the measure's impact and reach. Essentially, the council could adopt a full ban, partial ban or no ban at all.
Attempts to contact several councilors went unanswered, so there's no telling what adjustments, if any, might be made to the ordinance before a vote is taken.
Beloit is not alone in considering a weapon-barring ordinance for its public facilities, as other municipalities near and far have also recently weighed similar measures.

"Numerous communities across Wisconsin such as West Bend, Green Bay, Delafield, Kenosha, Sturtevant, Germantown, Hudson, Elkhorn and Chippewa have rejected bans such as that put forth by the Beloit City Council," reads a press release from the Rock County Voter Education Forum, an organization encouraging residents to oppose the Beloit ordinance.

But other governing bodies, those in Whitewater, West Baraboo and elsewhere have supported a firearms ban in public properties. Rock County recently decided to prohibit dangerous weapons from county property.

The state legislation, named the Wisconsin Personal Protection Act, was designed to give local governing bodies a certain level of control over their own properties, said City Manager Larry Arft. Permitting individuals to carry firearms inside City Hall, which was never allowed before Nov. 1 (the Act's implementation date), could create unnecessary dangers, as certain visitors - those paying tickets, those disputing fines and the like - are prone to become emotionally upset, he said.

City employees, Arft said, strongly support the weapon-barring ordinance. City Attorney Tom Casper, who has worked with Assistant City Attorney Elizabeth Krueger in crafting the ordinance, confirmed Arft's statement.

Arft said councilors are free to adjust the budget as they see fit, but he is issuing a "staff recommendation" that it passes in its full capacity.

The ordinance, Arft and Casper said, essentially restores the city's rules regarding firearms inside public buildings as they were before Nov. 1. The two men also point out that the new state law bars weapons from specific facilities, including police stations and courtrooms.

"The Act outlines certain areas where carrying a weapon is strictly prohibited, regardless of whether any local restrictions are implemented," a report to city council reads. "In Beloit, the prohibition applies to those portions of City Hall that include the Police Department and the Municipal Court when the court is in session."

As for other municipal buildings or facilities, the Act permits municipalities to make decisions locally regarding whether to permit or restrict the carrying of weapons."

However, "just because a government can pass a law doesn't mean they have to," Kuecker and others fighting the ordinance have said.

Second Amendment arguments aside, those opposing the ordinance say there are several practical reasons it should not pass.

Under the Act, municipalities cannot place restraints on concealed carriers in open-air public places like parks, parking lots or the city streets. So what happens when an individual visits the park, gun in tow, but needs to use an indoor restroom facility?

Arft and ordinance supporters say the individual should place his or her weapon inside his or her vehicle.

But this simply isn't practical, opponents say. What if someone doesn't have a car?

"Is the city going to buy you a car?" asked Mike Zoril, a former city council candidate who plans to seek office again come springtime. "No."

The proposed ordinance unfairly punishes Beloit's bus riders those without vehicles, who through state law have now been granted the ability to defend themselves, Zoril said.

Weapons were never allowed on city buses before Nov. 1, and the ordinance being considered would reinstate that rule.

And what about entering City Hall? Will there be a locker for individuals to store their weapons while inside? Will there be additional metal detectors to ensure people aren't violating the ordinance?
No, Casper and Arft said.

Weapons have never been permitted inside City Hall and there have never been metal detectors at the building's entrances. Therefore the security policies to not need broad changes, the two men said.

Again, Casper said, the assumption is that individuals can leave weapons inside their vehicles.

Capt. Vince Sciame, a veteran member of the Beloit Police Department, said there have been no serious incidents involving weapons inside City Hall or in other public facilities in recent memory.

The intricacies of Wisconsin's concealed carry laws have been hotly debated since Gov. Scott Walker passed the legislation in July. The Wisconsin Department of Justice's website has several resources for individuals seeking more information.

State Sen. Tim Cullen, D-Janesville, seeking clarification, last week asked Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen for a formal opinion on liability for property owners regarding the Act.
