HalloweenGate: White House Covered Up 2009 Halloween Party Hosted by Johnny Depp & Tim Burton (With Near-Exclusive Photos)

As is often the case, the cover-up is worse than the crime:

A White House “Alice in Wonderland” costume ball — put on by Johnny Depp and Hollywood director Tim Burton — proved to be a Mad-as-a-Hatter idea that was never made public for fear of a political backlash during hard economic times, according to a new tell-all.
“The Obamas,” by New York Times correspondent Jodi Kantor, tells of the first Halloween party the first couple feted at the White House in 2009. It was so over the top that “Star Wars” creator George Lucas sent the original Chewbacca to mingle with invited guests.
The book reveals how any official announcement of the glittering affair — coming at a time when Tea Party activists and voters furious over the lagging economy, 10-percent unemployment rate, bank bailouts and Obama’s health-care plan were staging protests — quickly vanished down the rabbit hole.
“White House officials were so nervous about how a splashy, Hollywood-esque party would look to jobless Americans — or their representatives in Congress, who would soon vote on health care — that the event was not discussed publicly and Burton’s and Depp’s contributions went unacknowledged,” the book says.
However, the White House made certain that more humble Halloween festivities earlier that day — for thousands of Washington-area schoolkids — were well reported by the press corps.

The White House is going to spin this as “old news”, but it’s not old news if it’s never been reported. And it never was. The official White House blog post from 2009 covering this event made no mention of the Hollywood bash (and in retrospect seems a little defensive by highlighting Halloween parties hosted by previous Administrations). The official media pool report from Richard Wolf at the USA Today contained a significant amount of detail on the day’s events both inside and outside of the White House, and yet made no mention of the costume ball or the presence of Hollywood celebrities.

The only media report which mentioned Depp and Burton at all was the Chicago Sun-Times which referred to them only as “among the attendees”, in an article that is no longer even publicly available. Everyone else – including the Huffington Post, CNN, Reuters, and of course the NY Times – dutifully covered the President and First Lady handing out candy to visiting children, while reporting the evening’s festivities as a “reception for military families” and White House staffers.

“As he begged for the public to cough up information about the killing of a Chicago cop, police Supt. Garry McCarthy said the shooting demonstrates the need to stop the proliferation of illegal firearms,” the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The superintendent said Congress could close loopholes in gun laws without violating the public’s Second Amendment right to bear arms.

Of course, “loopholes,” according to McCarthy include more than just ending private sales, and if he had his way, they’d all be illegal, except for those in the hands of his crack Chi-Town “Only Ones.” But despite the admission that the essentially “gun-free” Windy City (you didn’t think the McDonald ruling would keep them from resisting change every step of the way, did you?) “is awash in guns, demonstrated by the 131 guns officers seized on New Year’s Eve,” McCarthy makes it clear exactly who he intends to protect and serve:

“The proliferation of guns here is unacceptable,” McCarthy said. “It puts our officers in danger every day. It puts us in armed confrontations every single day.”

If it’s that dangerous, what kind of mentality would demand citizens in that environment be helpless?
One intent on doing everything in his power to maintain a monopoly of violence, including playing the race card when it suits his purposes…

Light A Candle To Stop Violence

So the Brady Bunch are planning Candle-light vigils on January 8th to “Stop Gun Violence”. Now many have pointed out what a stupid and pointless gesture that is, also many are noting the dwindling numbers of people willing to come out in the cold with a candle for the sake of their lost cause.

I propose a display that will show we have the same goals, but our side is actually interested in results.
So on January 8th I ask everybody to post a picture of a lit candle and you carry gun. Because lit candles don’t do a whole lot but cast a meager amount of light…but a loaded gun in the hands of lawful citizens can do wonders to protect innocent lives from harm.

Also “Gun Violence” is a bogus and made-up term, so on January 8th I ask you all to light a candle to stop VIOLENCE, and show you have the means to do just that.

Do this across blogs, facebook, photo accounts, twitter, and any other means. I suspect with a little spreading of the word we can easily dwarf the anti-freedom effort, as well as make the world a safer place!

Although it happened back in September, 2011, it appears many American taxpayers are unaware that General Motors struck a deal in Shanghai wherein the company has agreed to develop an electric vehicle (EV) platform with its longtime Chinese partner SAIC.

What else was included in this deal? GM has agreed to effectively move all future EV development to China. It could also mean that production of the vehicle itself will be moved overseas.

Right-to-work battle heats up

The newest ground zero for the union battle is Indiana.  If things heat up as I suspect in Indiana, they are going to make Wisconsin’s antics last year look like a Boy Scout jamboree.

The legislature in Indiana is now controlled by Republicans and the governor is a Republican by the name of Mitch Daniels.  They are determined to pass right-to-work legislation in their state, but as expected, the Democrats (backed by their unions) are having none of it.  What are these Democrats opposed to?  Losing their power.  That’s it.  The unions fuel their re-election chances, and the politicians fuel the unions’ power.  It’s a sickening cycle that costs taxpayers money and jobs.  What could Indiana GAIN if it passed right-to-work legislation?  Jobs, money, opportunity.  Take a look at some of the stats from a report on the effect of right-to-work legislation in Indiana.

• If Indiana had adopted such a law in 1977, by 2008 per capita income would have been $2,925 higher—equating to $11,700 higher for a family of four.  Indiana’s personal income in 2008 would have been $241.9 billion, 8.4 percent more than the actual $223.2 billion.

• Instead, Indiana has lost nearly $19 billion in annual income because of forced unionization.

• If the legislation is enacted this year, based on data on economic growth over the past three decades, that personal income per capita in 2021 would be $968 higher, or $3,872 higher for a family of four.  Over $6 billion, therefore, could potentially be added in relatively short order to the income of the residents of the Hoosier state.

The question is not: What do the people of Indiana have to lose by passing his law?  The question here is: What do the Democrat politicians and unions of Indiana have to lose?  The answer is power.  And the unions are particularly nervous because let’s say that Indiana does succeed in becoming a right-to-work state.  Slowly the unions lose their influence and Indiana becomes a more desirable place to do business, manufacturers look to expand there, people look for jobs there … and neighboring states start to notice that suddenly they aren’t quite as competitive and the people start to demand change.

On Saturday a Delhi Court ordered 22 social networking sites, including Yahoo and Microsoft, to wipe the objectionable and defamatory contents and file compliance reports by February 6, 2012. Additional Civil Judge Mukesh Kumar passed the order on a suit filed by Mufti Aijaz Arshad Qasmi seeking to restrain the websites from circulating objectionable and defamatory contents.

Concealed carry report

So, I've had my CCW license for two weeks. Carried every day, all day.

I've been carrying a S&W Model 19 with 2 1/2" barrel in a Blackhawk! 00 in the waistband holster. This model has no retention strap. The instruction sheet that comes with the holster talks about the strap, and the packaging says nothing about this lack. I called their customer service, and was told that there's two models.

Unless I place the gun just so on my right hip, it has a tendency to ride up out of the holster. If I get it in exactly the proper position, all is well. It conceals well when set right, but is too easy to get wrong. It's pretty comfortable, but I definitely would get the model with the strap.

I'm going to find a similar holster for my Glock 19, with a retention strap, and see if that works better. The Glock is thinner than the Smith.

I still want to find a proper shoulder holster. I think that will work out better than the IWB if I want to ride my bike when the weather gets nicer.
