Evidently, the feds think your cell phone should be a marketing tool for sellers - at your expense.

REMEMBER Cell Phone Numbers Go Public this month. 

All cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and   you will start to receive sales calls.

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone:    888-382-1222. 

It is the National DO NOT CALL list It will only take a minute of your time.. It blocks your number for five (5) years. 

You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.

It would have been so easy for the FCC to rule that INCOMING calls to mobile units would be paid for by the CALLER, just like any phone call before in history - but no, crony capitalism and lobbyists ensured that YOU have to work to remove your number from the lists - and calls from "charities" and "political action committees" are exempt from the "no call" list.

AND, you have to renew this every five years or you get more phone spam.

Another thing I've ranted about in the past is caller ID - it is trivial to come up with a system that can't be hacked, and even easier for CONgress to pass a law making foxing Caller ID a felony - but no, again, the phone company wanted to leave wiggle room for telemarketers and scam artiists.
