Letter to Senator Lena Taylor

Senator Taylor has decided the Constitutional Carry bill now in the Wisconsin legislature needs an "assault weapons" ban.

Dear Senator Taylor,

The Second Amendment specifically refers to military weapons - NOT hunting rifles and shotguns.

The whole intent of the Second Amendment is that the people - the militia, in particular, which was in the days of the Founders, defined as able-bodied males of the ages normally enlisted in armies, should have the proper tools to defend their communities from invasion or other dangers. The proper tools of the times were those weapons in common use by the British Army.

Obviously, the Founders could not conceive of modern weapons, but the intent is clear - the right of the people to keep and bear arms (common to the armies of the day), shall not be infringed.

Our Revolution was armed by guns owned by private citizens, and captured from the British. Some artillery was supplied by private citizens, as were the first US naval ships. We would all be speaking the Queen's English at tea today if it were not for those militia weapons held by private citizens.

Today, this does not mean shotguns and hunting rifles. It means military main battle rifles such as the M1 Garand and .50 caliber sniper rifles, select-fire weapons such as the M16 and M4, pistols, trench shotguns, mortars, and man-portable machine guns.

Here in Wisconsin, the people already own thousands of these weapons, including some full-auto and select-fire guns. These are not going away even if an "assault weapons" ban is enacted here.

Look at the real statistics for crimes. "Assault weapons" account for a very small number of crimes. Unfortunately, most of this miniscule number is high-profile multiple shootings, usually committed in so-called "gun free" areas.

The Second Amendment cannot be respected by banning the very weapons it is meant to protect.

America desperately needs Obamacare gone - root and branch.

The correct solution to America's healthcare issues is to enforce the LAW against collusion and price fixing. Hospitals and doctors need to post firm fixed pricing just like any other service provider. Drug companies need to have protections removed so that the free market dictates prices, not lobbyists.

Repeal Obamacare - and get the federal government out of healthcare. Up until the 1970's, the free market worked just fine. Let's get back to sanity.

Lena’s Continuing Gun Safety Efforts

Universal Background Checks

Lena proposed 2015 SB-776, which would finally close the
private seller loophole and require background checks for all
types of gun purchases. We need to make sure that proper
checks are being done on anyone who wants to buy a firearm.

Increased Training Requirements for Concealed Carry

Current law doesn’t specify important details such as class size
or duration when it comes to the training required for a
concealed carry permit. Lena proposed legislation to codify
these details and creates guidelines about gun handling and
safe storage. (2015 SB-777)

Proof of Insurance for Concealed Carry

The mental and physical damage that can be caused by gun
violence is very real, and very costly. Lena’s proposal would
require anyone applying for a concealed carry permit to have
proof of insurance to cover damage that may arise from
negligent use. (2015 SB-778)

No-Fly, No Buy

Suspected terrorists should not be allowed to buy firearms.
Lena’s bill would prevent anyone on the FBI No-Fly list from
purchasing a gun. (2015 SB-775)

Microstamping

Lena authored 2015 SB-729, which would require all new
handguns to have microstamping technology, creating a small
“fingerprint” on each bullet fired. This technology would help
law enforcement determine the exact gun a bullet was fired
from in criminal cases.

Opposed the Repeal of the 48-Hour Waiting Period

Last April, Republican legislators introduced
Senate Bill 35 to repeal the 48 hour waiting
period for handgun purchases. This waiting
period was designed to serve as a “cooling off”
period in order to reduce the occurrence of
impulsive gun violence and suicides. Lena
fought to stop this harmful legislation.

My reply:

Dear Senator Taylor,

I was at the hearing (Constitutional Carry) a couple weeks ago. I understand your concerns with uneducated or irresponsible persons having access to firearms and other dangerous items.

First we must keep in mind that the Second Amendment does no confer any rights on American citizens, any more than the rest of the bill of rights does. It simply prevents the government from interfering with the God-given, inalienable right to self-defense and defense of one's community, state, and country.

Second, there is no limitation possible under the Constitution, regardless of the opinions of any judge, Supreme Court or lower. There have been numerous judicial decisions made that are clearly un-Constitutional, and only await a non-activist majority to be overturned. One of these is the National Firearms Act of 1934, and everything dependent on it. This act un-Constitutionally required Americans to submit a $200 tax to the federal government for every sale or transfer of ownership of certain military (militia) weapons such as machine guns, short barreled rifles and shotguns, and noise suppressors for guns.

There can be no requirement for an American citizen to obtain training in order to exercise any inalienable right. This means that there will be those who will own a gun and not know how to use it correctly, but the burden remains on them, as in any other aspect of life in society, to not cause harm or damage through their actions. There are ample existing laws to cover one who harms another through misuse or purposeful criminal use of any item. Requiring a gun owner to obtain liability insurance before carrying is akin to requiring poll taxes - only the poor will suffer. 

I know, auto owners are required to have insurance - but nowhere in the Constitution is there a mention of driving a motor vehicle. The Second Amendment is quite clear, as are the writings of the time when it was written - "arms" are what the militia member needs to have in order to fulfill his or her duty.

You were not present in the late afternoon when I finally got to speak, but I did mention the fact that the American Revolution was armed by private parties, including the period equivalent of weapons of mass destruction - warships and artillery. All were provided by patriots or liberated from the British. Our first naval ships were privateers.

The bottom line is - are we going to honor our Constitution, as all Senators and other representatives are sworn to do, or are we going to continue to infringe on the American peoples' inalienable right?

Remember - the bad guys will always ignore any laws enacted, by definition.

By the way - please do not be swayed by all the Michael Bloomberg and George Soros funded "Moms Demand Action / Everytown for Gun Control" shirts and lobbyists. No one asked my nor any of my neighbors for our opinion when they put together that "91% of Wisconsinites want gun control" poll.

I have no words...

Email to the RocK County highway department

I am a motorcycle rider, bicycle rider, and owner of several classic cars.

Recently, County D and Q near my home were chip-sealed. This involves spraying an asphalt coating on the road and then dumping fine gravel on the asphalt. An attempt is reportedly made to compact the gravel with some sort of roller.

The result of this treatment is a road covered in, essentially, ball bearings, until traffic blows them to the shoulder, where they present a tempting place for bicyclists to wipe out. On the road proper, especially at intersections, the loose gravel is a real hazard to motorcyclists. Personally, I wiped out at Town Line Road and Creek last year on loose gravel in the intersection, after stopping for the sign there. Luckily I was not injured, nor was my bike damaged, but I came close to being run over by an approaching motorist who couldn't see me lying on the road before crossing the railroad tracks just north of the intersection.

That gravel was caused by trucks and cars making tight turns onto the shoulder, and was cleaned up by the Clinton road crews after I called in the hazard a few times. In the case of this "chip sealing", I see no benefit to the public, as most the gravel is thrown off to the shoulder almost immediately, and the remainder is just a hazard to drivers and bikers who need to make turns across the loose stuff.

According to the state DOT web site, chip sealing is supposed to be followed by sweeping after a few days. It's been a couple of weeks now, and the gravel is still there, presenting risks to all who use the roads. In addition, the center lines and no-passing zone markings have been obliterated.

When can we expect a clean-up crew and paint crews out to remedy these issues?

The only benefit I can see to "chip sealing" is profits to the people selling asphalt and gravel, and the employees running the machinery.

After-action report

I went to Madison yesterday, sat for six and one half hours before getting my chance to speak. I echoed about a dozen people urging passage of Constitutional carry in Wisconsin.

The opposition was out in force. About thirty women and a couple of males in "Moms Demand Progress / Everytown" shirts (probably supplied by Bloomberg), and a few Wisconsin Anti-Violence Effort (WAVE) people, including the woman who writes most of their emails. Several of the Everytown group brought children, including a couple of infants in carriers. One woman testified with her 2-year old - very cute.

The first few people speaking for the opposition got deafening rounds of applause from the gallery. When a few of us tried to clap after one of our side spoke, we were told that reactions from the gallery were not allowed. The committee chair did, in fairness, enforce this against the opposition for the rest of the hearing.

They brought out a couple of tear-jerkers, including this guy who got into the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel

News 3 had a camera for the first couple hours.

Both a Catholic spokesman and a rabbi spoke out against, as did several school board spokespeople.

I got the feeling that the committee was on our side, possibly with an eye toward some amendments. One big issue for two of the committee was the elimination of mandatory training to be allowed to carry. Reiterating the fact that the Bill of Rights does not require permission to be exercised did not work - they kept referring to the "fire in the theater" restriction on speech. Another problem was the issue of schools being allowed to decide to be "gun free" rather than being mandated by state law. They kept on how this would be some sort of burden to the schools to post signs - which they all have now, anyway, under current law.

All in all, a good use of my day.

Jugearscare blues

My wife called the "healthcare exchange" for some information, since she's without insurance since I retired and my "income" puts me above the limit for getting Jugearscare for her at a "subsidized" rate.

She made the mistake of giving them our phone number.

In the ensuing 24 hours, we have been called by no fewer than 20 different numbers around Wisconsin - each a robo-dialer that transfers to a semblance of a human working in a bullpen with other "operators". This person - it has to be a person, since no computer would ever be programmed with such ill skill at pronouncing English words and mangling our last name - reads from a script about how we had inquired about health insurance.

I hung up on the first few after telling them "not interested", swore horribly at the next few, got recorded messages from a few more while we were out, and told the last few that we were not interested and PLEASE remove us from their call list.

When Jugearscare is finally repealed, at least one segment of the economy will suffer - robocall bullpen phone operators. I'm sure that can all get employment in one of the branches of the Occupy movement, or as staffers for Demonrats.

Sorta like criminals in Chicago do every day right now?

My response:

I am writing to urge you to support AB 247 / SB 169, which would eliminate the requirement to obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon in Wisconsin. This  piece of legislation would return Wisconsin to the true spirit of the law under the Second Amendment of the Constitution.

Wisconsinites already suffer under several un-Constitutional laws, such as the "Handgun Hotline" which requires law-abiding American citizens to request permission from the government to purchase a personal protection device, as guaranteed under that Second Amendment.

Arguments have been made that this legislation will put thousands of guns on the street in the hands of criminals. Well, gun control laws are only obeyed by those individuals who would never abuse their 2nd Amendment right, so allowing good people to exercise their God-given right to self-defense cannot cause any such problems.

Please vote to pass this legislation. Proper "gun control" is education in public school for safety and marksmanship - not retaining laws abhorrent to our Constitution.

Governmental idiocy

My wife's CCW permit is up for renewal. So I go to the Wisconsin DOJ web site to help her do the deed.

They ask a few questions like what is the code on the renewal letter, your CCW number and driver's license number.

And a CAPTCHA picture matrix - "check all the pictures with mountains". etc.

This goes on for a few minutes. Finally, tired of this, I choose the audio CAPTCHA option.

I get a recording from Yahoo telling me that my computer is suspected of automated hacking of the CAPTCHA, or something to that nature.

If I was a violent person, the computer monitor would have half a dozen .357 caliber holes in it. But, as I am peaceful, I reloaded the page and tried yet again.

This time, it let me through, and my wife is now legal to carry a concealed weapon for the next few years.

What I want to know is - just how many "robots" try to renew Wisconsin CCW licenses in the typical day?

Perhaps you misunderstood my last missive - I want what millions of Americans - many of them Wisconsinites - want. A complete repeal of Obamacare, coupled with federal prosecution of health care organizations that conspire with insurance companies and drug companies to get special treatment under federal law. Any other industry that offered "discounts" based on which insurance company you had a policy with, or refused to give a firm estimate of costs before starting an "operation" would have been before a judge long before today.

Put the health care industry back under the free market. Federal involvement should be limited to ensure that there is no collusion, and actual prices are given to patients in advance of care.

Health care lobbyists have run the show for way too long. We voted in Mr. Trump to change things for the better. What you and CONgress have offered us is still lipstick on a pig if it does not address the root cause of our healthcare "crisis".

Just got a call fro (608) 266-1212 - Governor Walker's office. He wants me to give my opinions or ask questions in a  "town hall" teleconference.

It's really nice to have a voice in state government - but there's no way to opt out of this teleconference.

Hitting the hook switch gives you another dial tone, but when you hang up, the teleconference is still tying up the line.

Could I receive another call - one I might desperately need to answer, while the governor is tying up my phone? What if I don't know to tap the hook switch to get another dial tone and need to call 911?

The federal government's involvement in health care should end at enforcing existing laws prohibiting price fixing, abuse of non-profit corporations, and racketeering.

Put the health care industry back into the free market by removing legal protections for organizations that would have been broken up and their management sentenced to lengthy prison terms if they had been in any other industry.

Repeal Obamacare in its' entirety. We elected you to repair the damage eight years of Obama and liberal Democrats inflicted on America - not to propagate the worst of his sins.

If you have any interest in a second term, or being succeed by another conservative President, please listen to us. Better Hillary and a quick death to America in 2020 than continuing RINO capitulation to Democrats.

Another plea to Mr. Trump

Please, Mr. Trump - do NOT 'fix' Obamacare.

This needs to be completely repealed - U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks has a simple fix. Let's just undo what Obama and Pee-lousy saddled us with.

I would make one change - instead of "Effective as of Dec. 31, 2017", let's make it "effective as of date of passage. We do NOT need the IRS fining people for buying this pig in a poke.

Personally, last year, Obamacare stole $16,000.00 from my wife and me, before taxes, so our income was that much lower when we try to get a mortgage refinance - so we could "enjoy" a plan with a $10,000.00 per person deductible. We got absolutely nothing from Obamacare but a close call with bankruptcy.

Get the DOJ and the FBI investigating health care organizations for RICO and anti-trust violations - and then most Americans will not need health insurance except for catastrophic illness and accident, because health care will be affordable again. This is not the "popular" fix, but it's the one that will actually fix the problem.

We elected you because we were sick and tired of business as usual. "Repeal and replace" will do nothing to solve the real problem.

We have a new bill here in the Dairy State that would make us the 14th Constitutional Carry state.

I have to thank the Wisconsin Anti-Violence people for alerting me to this. I got calls in to all my Senators and Representatives, and Governor Walker. Some of these people have not even had time to read the bill.

Fingers crossed. It took entirely too long for Wisconsin to pass concealed carry - perhaps we can get in at the beginning this time.

Please, President Trump - don't insist on fixing that which cannot work, by definition.

The true problem with health care in this country is the US government not enforcing existing anti-trust and racketeering laws flouted by hospitals, insurers, and drug companies. Protectionist laws favoring US drug manufacturers also exacerbate this.

When the CEO of a non-profit health care organization here in the Beloit, Wisconsin area can bring in over eight million dollars in salary and bonuses, something is seriously wrong. I can expect that kind of salary for a CEO in a FOR-profit business - but non=profit? Something stinks to high heaven here.

When a dose of scorpion antivenom is thousands of dollars in Arizona, and about $100.00 in Mexico just a few miles south, someone has profited by custom-made laws protecting their market.

Almost no one would need more than catastrophic and accident insurance coverage if costs were driven by the free market. It is cheaper for an American citizen to fly to Japan and have a walk-in MRI than to have one here. Once the machine is amortized, the only cost is LN2 for the magnet and electricity - not worth thousands per day by any means.

Fix the problem. Lipstick on the Obamacare pig is a waste of lipstick, and will ensure you are a one-term President - if the health industry does not bankrupt America first.

Another message to my rep

I just got woken up by a robocall from (302) 307 1421 about cheap Medicare insurance. I pressed '1' to hear their agent and get a chance to vent at him/her, but it hung up on me. The phone number on Caller ID was spoofed.

15 minutes later, I got a call from (954) 464-6968 - a Robert Weiner, who wanted to ask about that Medicare insurance. I asked him if he had ever heard of the No Call list - he hung up on me.

So, another email to Rep. Pocan:

Dear Rep. Pocan,
Isn't it about time for Congress to address the spate of robocalls and caller ID spoofing? It's 9 PM here and I just got a robocall from 302 307 1421 'Polling Quest' - asking about if I wanted a cheap Medicare policy - just press 1. It got me out of bed. The call hung up on me after I did press 1.

15 minutes later, I got a call from 354 464 6968 'Robert Weiner' - the 'agent for this scam. Asked him if he had ever heard of the 'no call' list. He hung up. I called back - it told me the number was disconnected, but still allowed me to leave a terse message.

How about a law making these calls illegal? How about some prison time for anyone who spoofs a Caller ID signal?

I'm an electrical engineer - and I know it would be trivial for the telcos to make caller ID unspoofable. The only reason they don't is that robocallers pay their phone bills, I expect.
Do something that will have a positive effect on all Americans, instead of just knee-jerk voting' NO on everything.

Dear Speaker Ryan,

I have the misfortune to reside in Rep. Mark Pocan's district, so cannot email you.

I not that your phone mailbox is full. I can only assume that there is an overwhelming volume of calls concerning the promised GOP repeal of Obamacare.

Obamacare must be fully repealed - not 'fixed', not replaced. The federal government has no role in health care beyond enforcing laws prohibiting price fixing and monopolistic practices across state lines. That is what RICO and anti-trust laws are for.

Please. Do not insult our intelligence. Obamacare was an unmitigated disaster, and the proposed 'fix' does nothing to address the root cause of the cost of healthcare.

Look close to home - how can the CEO of a non-profit hospital group get paid over $8,000,000.00 per year, plus bonuses? Something stinks to high heaven here, and it has been rotting for decades.

Make history. Do something to actually FIX America's healthcare, and not just put lipstick on the pig.

President Trump has done many wonderful things in the short time he has been in office - but "replacing" Obamacare without actually doing anything to fix the underlying cause of high costs will go down in history as one of the greatest betrayals of all time, and will cost him a second term.

Do you really want Hillary Clinton - or worse - in 2020?

Jugearscare stole over $16,000.00 from my wife and me last year. I was laid off on December 22rd.

The contract house that was paying me did not allow the "holiday pay" for December 23rd, and paid me on December 26th - a new week - so I lost another $315.00 to Jugearscare.

I applied for Wisconsin unemployment. They asked for the gross amount of the New Years Day holiday pay I got - $370.00. But, after THAT Jugearscare deduction, I netted $15. Since Wisconsin only cares about gross pay, I lost that week's unemployment totally.

The Jugearscare "policy" we paid $315.00 per week for included a $10,000 deductible, so we did very little healthcare during the year, as whatever we did only went toward that deductible.

Also, since the deduction is pre-tax, we did not get $16,000.00 credit toward Social Security.

Repeal this horrible law - do NOT "fix" it. Fix the healthcare / insurance / drug industry that has flouted anti-trust and RICO laws for decades.

The Sunday paper here had a story about the head of a local hospital group who makes over $8,000,000.00 per year - in a non-profit organization. Something is very broken there, and a federal "health care law" won't fix it.

Email to Paul Ryan

I could not use his normal email, as I'm in Mark Pocan's district. He's a firm believer in Jugearscare and how we need to be protected from Mr. Trump.

Mr. Ryan is not pushing repeal of Jugearscare - just a polishing of that turd. Here's my comment:

We need to repeal Obamacare, not replace it. The federal government has no place in providing health care to America.

Why not use RICO and anti-trust laws to go after healthcare organizations, insurers, and drug companies that conspire to fix prices and prevent the free market from operating?

Why should scorpion venom antitoxin cost north of $1000.00 per dose in Arizona when it costs around $100.00 in Mexico? Same drug, free market.

Kill Obamacare. That's what we elected Trump to do, among other things - don't obstruct the will of America.

Letter to my senator

Tammy Gay Baldwin is under attack. She's been sending me emails frantically requesting funds to defend her Senate seat from Sheriff David Clarke of Milwaukee County.

Here's my response to her:

Dear Senator Baldwin,

I want to thank you for bringing the candidacy of Sheriff David Clarke to my attention via your solicitations for money. I will definitely be sending whatever I can to support his campaign to unseat you.

I care not what you do in your personal life, or who you have relationships with - it's none of my business, and believe me, most Wisconsinites couldn't care less about your sexuality - but you chose to make an issue of it. So don't get offended when Sheriff Clarke mentions what you have broadcast to all in his campaigning.

You could do some good for Wisconsin in your last months as a Senator. How about a bill to criminalize spoofing or misuse of Caller ID and email? We could put a bunch of the people now actively infringing on our Second Amendment rights in the FBI NICS office and the BAT(F)E to work hunting spammers and con artists rather than harassing gun owners and buyers.

Good luck in your life as a private citizen. I'm sure you can live comfortably on your Senate pension.

Letter to the President

Along with sending notes to my CONgresscritters, I just sent this:

Dear President Trump,

Please follow up on your campaign promises. You have made a fantastic start, but there is much left to do.

We need to finally admit that the Constitution states, in the Second Amendment, that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Several federal laws dating back to 1934 need to be repealed, and the BATFE needs to either be disbanded (preferably!) or lose the 'F', as the federal government has no need for a bureau of 'firearms' in light of that 2nd Amendment.

The several states need to be reminded of this, also. There is no need for country-wide recognition of concealed carry, since every law-abiding American already has that right if he or she cares to exercise it.

If the 1934 National Firearms Act is repealed, the 1968 Gun Control Act and the 1986 extensions to it, as well as the Brady Bill, will have to be repealed, also. This will free up FBI resources that now are charged with checking whether or not Americans should be allowed to buy a firearm, to actually go after real criminals.

Another thing - how about a law making it a federal crime to spoof an email or to spoof a caller ID? Of course, this needs enforcement - perhaps those FBI assets freed up by the repeal of the Brady Bill?

"Gun crime" in New York, Baltimore, Los Angeles and Chicago would plummet if honest people could easily defend themselves. New York, Maryland, California and Illinois have the strictest - and most Un-Constitutional gun laws in the country. Coincidence?

Build that wall. Any Mexican citizen who wants to truly become an American can do it the same way all my grandparents did it - legally.

Vetting people from Muslim countries that have large incidences of terrorist problems is only common sense. Keep it up.

If you can clean up the gun issues, you definitely have me as a supporter for your second term, if you care to run again.

Letter to my representatives

I have to thank the Wisconsin Against Violence Effort for the opportunity to let my elected officials know I fully support their proposal to allow concealed carry in schools and universities. For far too long, these places have been rendered "free fire zones" for criminal and lunatics by state and federal laws.

Here's what I sent, using their convenient web page:

I applaud the promise, coming from legislative leaders, to listen to the will of the people. In that spirit, I urge you to listen to me about an issue that is critical to our children’s safety.

I fully support proposals to allow private citizens to carry loaded defensive guns in K-12 schools, colleges, and universities.  Allowing  any law-abiding person to bring a gun into a school will make our children safer. It will decrease the risks they face because at least there will be the possibility of someone present being able to offer a defense in case of another attempt to use a "gun free" zone as a shooting gallery with helpless victims.

I implore you to put the safety of our children first by supporting this common-sense proposal. Thank you for valuing the voices of Wisconsin citizens.

New year - new job search

Well, for Christmas, I got a layoff from the 120-mile commute "temp to hire" job I've gone to for the last 14 months. The "hire" part never happened, due to bad management and the fact the company got bought out by a larger competitor effective sometime this year - all engineering is likely going to end up in Iowa. At least it's not going to China.

So, I'm looking again, Got a couple good prospects.

Got a parting gift from the agency that got me the job. They don't pay  holiday pay for the Friday before Christmas - which I billed for, and the client approved. They pay for the Monday after.

So, my last check was one day shy, and today we got a bank transfer for the holiday - $15. $310 was "deducted" for the last Jugearscare "premium" for 2016.

Thoughts on Orlando

So, the war we have been ignoring with Islam has come back to America after 15 years.

A Muslim jihadist who may or may not have enjoyed his visits to the Pulse gay club in Orlando finally did his holy duty as a devout Muslim and slaughtered a bunch of infidels involved in acts Allah (and Mohammed, PBUH) don't approve of, in a country described as the Great Satan.

Our "leader", Jugears Osama, can't even be bothered to give a phone call to the governor of Florida - but can call France to discuss the matter. Of course, in hos address to America, Islam and jihad were never mentioned, but sure as shootin', gun control was.

We have Senator Christopher Murphy (D-CT, of course) leading a filibuster in the Senate until that body finally "addresses gun control", as if that would have stopped the terrorist. I actually approve of the filibuster - while these idiots are bloviating, CONgress isn't passing any more infringements on Americans.

Talking heads still refer to the "gunman" - I've never understood this term. You never hear of a "knifeman" or a "batman" (baseball, not DC comic), but every shooting has a "gunman". I guess this is a mutation probably caused by chemtrails.

At least the death toll was almost instantly reduced from 50 to 49, as they deducted the quite justifiable shooting of the perpetrator by police from the list of victims.

I was pleasantly surprised to see an email from Russ Feingold about the atrocity that did not once mentioned guns. He did mention one of them "gunmen", though, and not a word about terror or it's cause.

Since when do we lower the flag after a war crime? Did we lower the flag after Pearl Harbor?

Why has there been exactly zero Muslim religious leaders speaking out against this atrocity if Islam is truly a religion of peace? I've heard a couple Muslims decry the act, but then, Islam instructs the faithful to lie when it advances Islam.

In Madison,Billy Graham's son spoke at a rally, and the lefties were out en masse protesting, since he's a Christian and proposes that we follow the law that has served America well for over 200 years, the law that incidentally happens to correspond with many Bible verses. Some of them had an alternative rally where a Jewish Rabbi spoke out urging acceptance, as did a black reverend. There was a Muslim leader there, who's unspeaking image was flashed as the reporter talked about how this rally was supposed to promote peace. I wonder what that gentleman had to say?

And I see now that today there was at least one attack in Texas at a Wal-Mart by a Muslim terrorist.

We are at war, We need to declare this and immediately take up Mr. Trump's idea about keeping people out who profess adherence to a "religion" that justifies acts like Orlando.

Media outlets quickly picked up a story about two Klansmen in full robes and caps standing outside a Nevada caucus site to "support" Donald Trump. While Trump certainly has a very active Neo-Nazi Alt-Right base, it mostly spends its time on Twitter calling conservatives "cuckservatives" and retweeting anime and Taylor Swift memes to make themselves seem younger than they are. (That doesn't mean he's responsible for them.)

There was one obvious problem with these two KKK Trump supporters. They were black.

In the Beloit Daily News:

Streets awash in stolen guns

UNDER THE OPEN RECORDS law the Beloit Daily News asked for and obtained information on how many guns have been stolen since 2013 in the city.

The answer is 66.

THAT’S NOT TO SAY this newspaper is against any and all adjustments in gun laws. There are sensible reforms that may be worthwhile. No one needs assault-style rifles with extra-large ammunition magazines. No one needs armor penetrating ammunition. Government should consider closing sales loopholes for gun shows and perhaps even private parties that evade background checks. We think last year’s repeal by state leaders of Wisconsin’s 48-hour waiting period for handgun sales was a mistake and should be reinstated.

Case in point: Christopher O’Kroley is charged with gunning down a 24-year-old Stoughton woman the day after he bought a handgun legally without a waiting period. If O’Kroley had to wait one more day to obtain the gun would he still have killed the woman? No one can say one way or the other, but the case ought to give state legislators something to think about.

While we are very skeptical more gun laws will make criminals change their behavior, we’re also skeptical that making guns easier and quicker to obtain and carry will make us safer.

MEANWHILE, WE GIVE the Beloit Police Department credit for initiating a program to track stolen guns used in the commission of crimes. More data is a good thing.

The numbers of stolen guns here — and, by implication, the thousands of others across Wisconsin — ought to suggest to policymakers and law enforcement that more attention needs to be directed toward the black market for weapons. Undoubtedly, this is a key source for guns being used to shoot up our streets.

One more thing: Part of being a responsible gun owner is to keep your weapons secured. Lock up your guns so they are harder to steal.

I left a comment:

No one "needs" to be able to read anything they want to, whenever they want to. Perhaps we should regulate people's access to philosophy texts that might cause them to think in ways that we don't agree with.

The Second Amendment is very clear in it's wording. If you understand the thinking of the Founders, you realize that the "arms" mentioned are precisely "assault-style rifles with extra-large ammunition magazines: and "armor penetrating ammunition".

There is no "gun show loophole". All sales from Federally licensed dealers must be cleared through the FBI E-Check system, and in the case of handguns in Wisconsin, through the "Handgun Hotline". Sales between private parties are not regulated, but the BATFE takes a very dim view of private parties "dealing" in firearms.

If you look long enough, you will always be able to find a case where someone did something that would have been prevented if only that person had "obeyed the law". The trouble, as pointed out in this same editorial, is that criminals DO NOT obey laws. If someone is so without an internal moral compass that he or she will commit premeditated murder, a waiting period won;t change things. On the other hand, there have been cases of women killed by persons bound by restraining orders while they waited for that same (the BDN website truncated the comment here - had to post the rest as a second comment) waiting period to expire - they were rendered defenseless by the law meant to "protect" them.

Laws are not the answer. Follow the Constitution. Teach children history and respect. Teach children how to properly handle firearms - this should be as much a part of public education as physical education is. Allow law-abiding people un-infringed access to the arms that are their right to keep and bear. Accept the fact that some persons will be criminals or deranged regardless of any laws - and that we need to be prepared to defend against them at any time.

The police are second-responders. The victim of a crime is the person there first. Give him or her a fighting chance, or at least the right to decide if they want to be capable of defense!

Almost every "mass shooting" in this country has been in a "gun free" area. Think about that. Perhaps there's a really useful law that could be enacted - make anyone who posts a "no guns" sign responsible for any act of violence committed with a firearm on their premises.

As far as "tracking" stolen guns - how does that help the victims? Unless you can tie the gun to the shooter under legal rules of evidence, where it came from is irrelevant.

By the way - where is it outrage over President Obama's administration's "Fast and Furious" operation, where hundreds of those evil "assault rifles" were purposely allowed to be sold - illegally - to Mexican drug dealers? How about we enforce some of THOSE laws before saddling good citizens with yet more useless - and illegal - waiting periods and limits on private sales?

Read that Second Amendment again. And, if you own a gun - keep it secured. If you are not carrying it or within arm's reach of it -KEEP IT LOCKED UP.

Got an email from good 'ol Russ - he wants me to tell the GOP leadres to approve Jugears' appointment to the Supreme Court, regardless of what a mess his likely appointee would make of what's left of the Constitution.

His email:

President Obama will soon nominate someone to succeed Justice Scalia on the Supreme Court. This responsibility is not only critical to the operation of our highest court, it is a responsibility explicitly laid out in our Constitution: The president shall appoint a justice to serve our nation and the Senate will provide "advice and consent."

Once President Obama nominates a new justice, the Republican-led Senate can consider the nominee and decide not to support them -- that's their right, and it's what the Constitution means by "advice and consent."

What the Senate cannot do is abdicate this constitutional responsibility. Yet Senator Ron Johnson has proposed doing exactly that. He's putting Republican party politics ahead of our Constitution and offering up only excuses. "Doing nothing is also an action," he said this week.

His "doing nothing" is actually not action, it's partisan obstruction. His "doing nothing" is why Washington has become so dysfunctional. His "doing nothing" flies in the face of his constitutional responsibility, and it has to stop. So I'm calling on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senator Johnson, and other Senate Republicans to drop their knee-jerk obstruction and give the president's Supreme Court nominee fair consideration.

But I need your help to build pressure.

Tell Mitch McConnell, Ron Johnson, and the Senate to do their jobs and give fair consideration to President Obama's Supreme Court justice nominee.

The Supreme Court plays a unique role in applying the Constitution to important questions of American life and business, but if Senator Johnson and other Senate Republicans continue on this damaging path, our country could be waiting over a year for a new Supreme Court justice.
Join me in reminding Senator Johnson, Mitch McConnell, and other Senate Republicans of their crucial responsibility.

What they do not have is a Constitutional responsibility to approve an appointee who will not rule based upon the original intent and wording of the Constitution. They do not have the responsibility to approve someone who will legislate from the bench.

The Supreme Court is not there to interpret the Constitution as a "living document" - they are there to rule on cases and how the Constitution, as written and ans originally intended, allows or prohibits that particular law in question.

We have had entirely too much "interpretation" from the Supreme Court in my lifetime. It's time for this to end.

If President Obama nominates someone with the above credentials and judicial record, I am all for them. Otherwise, let's wait until next February.

There is no case before the Supreme Court so critical tha we need to rush this. I cannot conceive of any such case arising in the next year.

Except, possibly, a ruling on whether or not we have had a legitimate President for the last two terms - and even that could wait until next year - he's already done about all the damage he could, unless the CONgress refuses to do their jobs.
